Timely Biometric Authentication as Deadline Approaches

When booking a ride-hailing service and paying with MoMo, Mr. Manh Khiet (HCMC) immediately received a request to update biometric authentication from the new app to be able to pay online. This is one of the efforts of this application to call on users to quickly complete biometric authentication because after the deadline of January 1, 2025, not only banks but also applications such as MoMo will suspend transactions for unauthenticated accounts.

Besides communication, agencies are also diversifying their authentication methods as the deadline approaches.

The most notable is the recent cooperation between MoMo and the VneID application of the Ministry of Public Security. MoMo is a financial application that the Ministry of Public Security cooperated to deploy electronic authentication through connection with the VNeID application. Completed from November 2024, the integration of electronic authentication on VNeID has helped MoMo users have an additional biometric authentication method that does not require a chip-embedded citizen ID card or NFC device.

“The implementation of electronic authentication services via the VNeID platform is a practical step to simplify administrative procedures, enhance security, protect personal information and facilitate people in electronic transactions,” said Major General Nguyen Ngoc Cuong - Director of Department C06, Ministry of Public Security at the signing event between MoMo and RAR Center on December 16.

Accordingly, authentication via VNeID on MoMo plays an important role in limiting the situation of virtual accounts, supporting database cleaning and ensuring safety in the electronic transaction environment.

“The cooperation with RAR Center takes place at the right time and is of great significance when MoMo application and banks are actively implementing solutions to support users in biometric authentication according to Circular 40, improving security and safety in electronic transactions,” said Mr. Nguyen Manh Tuong - Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, General Director of MoMo, speaking at the event.

Promoting national digital transformation and cashless payments

Following the biometric authentication linkage through the VNeID application, RAR Center and MoMo will also cooperate in researching and implementing digital solutions in public services, healthcare, education, transportation, etc. The goal is to provide practical services so that everyone can access and benefit from digital utilities.

It is expected that RAR Center and MoMo will jointly research and deploy the integration of MoMo online payment gateway on VNeID application, applicable to bill payment and public administration. People can pay electricity bills, taxes, fees, charges, financial obligations... on VNeID in a few minutes, via MoMo.

In addition to public services, RAR Center and MoMo will also cooperate to promote cashless payments in the fields of healthcare, education, transportation... and other fields.

Connecting the electronic payment infrastructure between the two sides will help save time and effort for people and businesses by reducing administrative procedures and complicated paperwork, increasing transparency and safety for public service payment transactions. "This will be an important foundation to improve the quality of payment activities, promote socio-economic development, and at the same time bring many practical and safe utilities to people and businesses," Major General Nguyen Ngoc Cuong - Director of Department C06, Ministry of Public Security said at the event.

Over the past decade, MoMo has contributed to creating cashless payment habits among Vietnamese people and promoting the development of digital finance. In 2024, payments via this application will account for 35% of total cashless transactions on the national public service portal. MoMo's technology charity platform also raised VND353 billion last year to support 742,357 disadvantaged children.
