Considered a competitive product of the province, Binh Thuan dragon fruit still faces many difficulties and challenges to ensure stable output and bring about appropriate economic value. Therefore, in 2025, the locality will continue to implement solutions to contribute to the sustainable development of production, processing and consumption of dragon fruit products...
Product advantage
Dragon fruit is considered one of 40 advantageous export products of Vietnam, and has been identified by our country as one of 12 fruits with competitive advantages. For Binh Thuan, dragon fruit has also affirmed itself as a key crop, with advantages and currently ranks first in the country in terms of area, output, productivity, quality, etc. In addition, the geographical indication of Binh Thuan dragon fruit is the 4th brand protected by the State and registered with exclusive names nationwide. Along with that, the geographical indication of Binh Thuan dragon fruit has been protected by the European Union (EU), while the image and brand "Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit" has been renewed for protection by 13 countries and territories. Including: the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, Korea, China, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Hong Kong.
Aiming to develop and expand the consumption market for Binh Thuan dragon fruit products, the locality has focused on implementing many solutions in the past time. In addition to strengthening information and propaganda work, departments, branches and functional units also pay attention to supporting businesses to improve their production and business capacity and competitiveness. For example, in 2024, the Department of Industry and Trade actively supported businesses to participate in the contents of local and national trade promotion and industrial promotion programs. Thereby, creating conditions for businesses to promote their brands, joint ventures and associations to perfect technological processes and processing processes to meet the export market requirements of the product. Or supporting the Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association and a number of businesses to register to participate in the US Trade and Investment Promotion Delegation and survey the 2024 Private Label Show International Fair...
For the domestic market, the locality has successfully organized the "Exhibition Week of typical products, OCOP products of Binh Thuan province in 2024" in Ho Chi Minh City. Accordingly, 6 enterprises, cooperatives, dragon fruit production and processing facilities in the province participated with a variety of products processed from dragon fruit: Dragon fruit wine and juice, dried dragon fruit - soft-dried dragon fruit, dragon fruit noodles... Last year, the functional sector also organized a working delegation to participate in many related events such as the Conference connecting supply and demand of Ho Chi Minh City with provinces and cities taking place in September 2024. Within the framework of the conference program, the locality supported enterprises and cooperatives producing and processing dragon fruit to connect directly with leading retail groups in Vietnam and wholesale markets. Next, we will also support many Binh Thuan enterprises to participate in booths at the Vietnam - China International Trade and Tourism Fair (Lang Son in 2024), and the Cao Bang (Vietnam) - Baise (China) International Trade Fair in 2024.
Expand the market
However, the reality shows that the development and expansion of the consumption market for Binh Thuan dragon fruit products still faces many difficulties and challenges. Because most enterprises, cooperatives, dragon fruit production and processing facilities in the locality are small-scale, have little capital, low competitiveness and are limited in trade promotion activities to promote brands, introduce products, find customers, distribution channels, etc. Therefore, in 2025, the local Industry and Trade sector will continue to coordinate to implement many solutions to overcome existing problems to develop and diversify consumption markets both domestically and internationally, thereby contributing to ensuring stable output for Binh Thuan dragon fruit products.
It is known that the Department of Industry and Trade will proactively coordinate with relevant departments and localities, Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit Association to study regulations and policies to propose effective trade promotion solutions. In addition to consolidating and expanding traditional markets, it will also strengthen trade promotion, organize survey and trade delegations according to the programs of central ministries and branches. Through that, it will explore and open new markets, potential markets to reduce dependence on China, especially focusing on the markets of India, Pakistan and Middle Eastern countries, or countries that have signed Free Trade Agreements with Vietnam.
This year, Binh Thuan continues to promote trade cooperation, connecting supply and demand (both directly and online) with provinces and cities in the country to provide practical support to local businesses. Aiming to consolidate and develop more distribution channels through wholesale markets, systems of trade centers, supermarkets, convenience stores and enhance trade promotion for processed dragon fruit products, contributing to reducing the pressure on fresh dragon fruit consumption. On the other hand, it will mobilize and support businesses, cooperatives, dragon fruit production and processing facilities to participate in the Binh Thuan e-commerce platform and create their own QR codes to trace the origin. At the same time, it also regularly coordinates with reputable e-commerce platforms to support businesses in connecting with foreign importers, or domestic and foreign supply chains...
Implementing key solutions, this year the functional sector continues to research and advise on building specialized areas for VietGAP and GlobalGAP dragon fruit in Binh Thuan in the direction of organizing large-scale commodity production associated with processing, logistics and consumption markets to focus on investing in infrastructure: Electricity, water, transportation, packing houses, cold storage, processing factories, etc. Thereby creating the best conditions to serve production needs, improve quality, diversify dragon fruit products to meet export and domestic consumption requirements.
