Proactively respond to heavy rain and floods

According to the forecast information of the General Department of Hydrometeorology No. 1297/TCKTTV-QLDB, from November 3 to 10, 2024, the Central region may be affected by some bad weather patterns causing heavy rain; after November 10, heavy rain in the Central region continues to develop complicatedly with the possibility of 2-3 heavy rains.

To proactively respond to the heavy rain and floods in the coming days and minimize damage, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep said that the Ministry has sent a document to 13 provinces and cities in the Central region and ministries and branches requesting them to focus on implementing proactive solutions to respond to heavy rain and floods in the Central region in the next 10 days.

Accordingly, along with urgently overcoming the consequences of storm No. 6, especially in the provinces and cities of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang, localities proactively harvested aquaculture and agricultural production early with the motto "green house is better than old field".

Focus on reviewing and preparing to evacuate people in areas at risk of deep flooding, flash floods, and landslides; prepare forces, vehicles, equipment, and essential supplies according to the "four on-site" motto to be ready to respond to all situations.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep also noted that provinces and cities need to develop plans to ensure the safety of reservoirs and downstream areas; proactively operate reservoirs to ensure flood capacity according to regulations. Review plans to ensure traffic safety and maintain power and communication systems, etc.

In addition, ministries, branches and 13 provinces and cities need to regularly update information, forecasts and warnings about floods and rains to direct in accordance with the actual situation; at the same time, direct radio and television agencies and local media agencies to strengthen measures to inform about weather developments and natural disasters to authorities at all levels and people to proactively prevent and respond.

Due to the impact of heavy rain, the water level of hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs in the Central region is at a high level. In the North Central and South Central regions, there are currently a total of 11 hydroelectric reservoirs operating to regulate the flow through spillways and 13 irrigation reservoirs operating to discharge spillways to ensure the safety of reservoirs, dams and downstream areas.
