A Swiss International Air Lines flight was forced to make an emergency landing on December 23 due to smoke in the cabin and cockpit, the airline said.
According to the source, flight LX1885 was en route from Bucharest (Romania) to Zurich (Switzerland) on December 24 when the incident occurred. At that time, there were 74 passengers and 5 crew members on board.
The crew decided to make an emergency landing in Graz, Austria. Passengers left the cabin via emergency slides.
According to sources, 15 people were injured. Of these, 5 crew members had to undergo medical examination, including a flight attendant who was taken by helicopter for emergency treatment and whose condition is currently unknown. 10 of the 74 passengers received medical treatment at Graz airport.
The airline said the plane was pulled off the runway. The cause of the smoke is not yet known.
"SWISS sincerely apologises to passengers for the inconvenience and thanks them for their patience during this difficult situation," the airline said. "We extend our condolences to the passengers and crew members affected by this incident, especially those who are still receiving medical care."
Swiss International Airlines announced that it has set up a support team to address the needs of customers and flight crew, such as accommodation assistance and onward flight arrangements.
The company also said it is still in close contact with authorities and working to determine the cause of the incident.
