(CLO) Unidentified drones have been spotted in recent weeks at the US Ramstein Air Base and several other locations in Germany, according to media reports.
German magazine Spiegel said the drones appeared on the evenings of December 3 and 4 at the Ramstein base. They were also spotted over the German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall and the chemical company BASF.

The origin of the drones is still unknown. The incidents come as German intelligence agencies warn that the country’s support for Ukraine could make it a target for sabotage, according to The Guardian.
Ramstein base is a no-drone zone, making the appearance of these drones all the more notable.
The US military confirmed the incident in a statement to RBC-Ukraine: “In early December, multiple small unmanned aerial vehicles were detected in the area and on the Ramstein Air Base. They did not cause any impact to residents or military facilities and equipment.”
“The safety of BASF sites is our top priority,” a BASF spokesperson told The Guardian. “We constantly monitor suspicious activity and work closely with the relevant security agencies.”
Previously, from November 20 to 22, small drones were also detected near US air bases in the UK, including Lakenheath, Mildenhall and Feltwell in the east of the country.
“The number and configuration of unmanned aerial vehicles is constantly changing. We have closely monitored them and determined that there is no threat to base residents or critical infrastructure,” the US Army in the UK said.
In the US, since November, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has received 3,000 reports of drone sightings, most of which occurred in New Jersey. The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI said in a joint statement that there is no evidence that these drones are related to national security, pose a threat to public safety or are of foreign origin.
Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh initially said the drones had no connection to foreign adversaries.
