Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper Le Minh Toan presents savings books to orphans in Van Ban District (Lao Cai)

“A savings book cannot cover up all the pain when there are children who have lost both their parents. No material thing can compensate, only love can ease the pain. I think a 30 million VND book for each child is the heart of many people, the heart of the media, the loving connection of the collective and individuals.

I hope that the savings book will be a sign to guide the children step by step to maturity, to be more confident in life, to help heal pain and loss. And I really hope that the children's guardians can monitor and manage this source of funding in the most humane and effective way, to help the children every day. It is like a warmth sent from the community, helping the children have enough strength and capacity to step towards the horizon and light", journalist Le Minh Toan said.

“We would like to thank Tien Phong newspaper and through the newspaper, thank the donors who have given their love and meaningful gifts to the children… Wishing Tien Phong newspaper to develop more and more and attract more readers, to be a truly meaningful information channel for the people as well as the youth of the whole country. Hopefully the newspaper’s charitable activities will develop more and more to join hands with local authorities to continue to have many meaningful activities…”.

Mr. Luong Thanh Huong, Vice Chairman of Van Ban District People's Committee, Lao Cai Province

At the program, Tien Phong newspaper representatives presented 6 savings books (each worth 30 million VND) to 6 children who lost their parents due to the recent floods and storms. The newspaper also presented 3.95 million VND to Nguyen Anh Thuy (born in 2022, in Bo Khanh village, Yen Ha commune, Van Ban district). This is a donation from Tien Phong newspaper readers sent specifically to support Thuy. Thuy's parents worked as workers in Nam Luc commune and died in a landslide at the Southeast Asia - Nam Luc hydropower plant in Bao Ha district, Lao Cai province. Thuy was brought by her grandmother Ha Thi Do and her uncle, she still thought that her parents worked far away.

“I have been sick for the past few days, and I keep asking why my parents are taking so long to come home! I am staying with my grandmother, she takes care of my meals, and my uncles and aunts take turns coming to sleep with me at night. My parents work far away, so I play by myself, I am independent, I rarely ask my parents or anyone to hold me,” said Ha Thi Do.

Mr. Luong Thanh Huong, Vice Chairman of Van Ban District People's Committee, sent his thanks to Tien Phong newspaper and readers nationwide. Mr. Huong said that storm Yagi caused severe damage to the provinces, including Lao Cai. Van Ban District had 6 deaths, economic damage estimated at nearly 500 billion VND, it may take many years to restore infrastructure and roads.

In recent times, with the joint efforts of the whole country and philanthropists, the people of Van Ban district have received much love and sharing from people across the country. That has contributed to easing the pain, alleviating the immediate difficulties, and quickly stabilizing people's lives.
