TEMPO. More than 24 million Indonesians are participating in improving digital literacy through the National Digital Literacy Movement (GNLD) from 2017-2023.
THE STAR. The Malaysian Ministry of Defense will increase the procurement of equipment for the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), including 12 helicopters, 3 Coast Guard Vessels (LMS) and 136 fast-moving armored vehicles.
MANILA TIMES. The Philippines has indefinitely banned the import of poultry and poultry products from Belgium and France due to outbreaks of avian influenza in the two European countries.
BANGKOK POST. In 2023, a total of 466 foreign films from 40 countries and territories were shot in Thailand, generating an estimated revenue of more than 6.6 billion baht (US$188.8 million).
KYODO. As of the afternoon of January 9, Japanese authorities confirmed that the death toll from the earthquake in Ishikawa province and surrounding areas had reached 202 , while 102 people were still missing.
WIRE. The People's Democratic Party (PDP) of former Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay won the general election with 30 seats while the Bhutan Tendrel Party (BTP) won the remaining 17 seats.

MINT. The Indian Navy has deployed more than 10 warships to enhance its maritime presence in the region, from the North and Central Arabian Sea to the Gulf of Aden to thwart any piracy and UAV attacks.
YONHAP. The South Korean military plans to resume drills in the Northern Limit Line (NLL) buffer zone established under a 2018 inter-Korean military agreement, following recent artillery fire by North Korea.
KOREA TIMES. The South Korean National Assembly has passed a bill banning the consumption of dog meat nationwide, paving the way for an end to the country's decades-long dog-eating habit.
Europe
FINANCIAL TIMES. Former Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, 76, who was President of the European Central Bank, could become a candidate for the position of President of the European Council.
AFP. The European Commission is reviewing Microsoft's investment in OpenAI to determine whether it should be investigated further under the bloc's merger rules.
EURO NEWS. The EU needs around 1 million more legal migrants each year to make up for its ageing workforce, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson has said.
DW. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on EU member states to increase efforts to provide military aid to Ukraine as the US Congress has yet to approve aid to Kiev.
UKRINFORM. Sweden is providing approximately $5 million to NATO's Comprehensive Assistance Package (CAP) Trust Fund for Ukraine, which will be used for military aid to Ukraine.
FRANCE 24. French President Emmanuel Macron chose his close ally, Mr. Gabriel Attal, 34 years old , former Minister of Education, as the country's new Prime Minister.

AFP. The Czech Republic and France will cooperate on financing joint nuclear energy projects, Czech Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Sikela told a press conference after a meeting with French Energy Transition Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher.
SWISS INFO. The Swiss National Bank (SNB) is expected to report a loss of 3 billion Swiss francs ($3.5 billion) in 2023 due to its policy of raising interest rates.
LOCAL SPAIN. The mandatory wearing of face masks has been reintroduced in hospitals and health facilities across Spain since January 10, amid the flu outbreak.
MTV. The Finnish government will extend the closure of its border with Russia, Interior Minister Mari Rantanen announced on January 11.
TASS. The Ostanskinskyi District Court in Moscow (Russia) ordered the detention of American citizen Robert Romanov Woodland for 2 months on charges of illegal possession, transportation, and production of drugs, with a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
America
CNN. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed that he recognized Israel's efforts over the years to foster better connectivity and integration in the Middle East.

AP. A caravan of at least 1,000 migrants in Mexico resumed its march north toward the U.S. border, accusing the Mexican government of failing to fulfill its commitment to issue humanitarian visas.
BBC. At least four Ecuadorian police officers have been kidnapped after the country declared a nationwide state of emergency on January 8 to strengthen and restore security and order.
AP. The Bolivian government is reinstating strict health measures , including mandatory mask wearing in schools, to combat a surge in Covid-19 cases ahead of students returning to school after winter break.
BUENOS AIRES TIMES. The Argentine government has asked a US court to rule against Burford Capital seizing the assets of Argentina's state-owned oil company YPF today, January 10.
YONHAP. Guatemala officially signed an agreement to join the FTA between South Korea and a group of Central American countries including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Panama, Honduras and Nicaragua.
Africa
EGYPT NEWS. The number of refugees and migrants in Egypt has exceeded 9 million from 133 countries, higher than the estimate of over 8 million, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced.
AFRICA FEEDS. Twenty-seven Sierra Leone soldiers appeared before a military court in the capital Freetown on January 10 for their alleged involvement in a coup attempt in late November 2023.
