In the first set, both players competed in each game until the score was 4/4, the player from Hai Dang Tay Ninh Club excellently got a break point to take the lead 5/4. After that, he kept his serve to end the first set with a score of 6/4.
In the second game, Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong started quite strongly, with 1 break point to take the lead 3/0 then 5/2. However, when he was pushed into a corner, Ly Hoang Nam once again showed his natural ability. He excellently won 3 consecutive games, equalizing the score 5/5, 6/6 and winning 7/3 in the tie break.
With a 2-0 (6/4, 7/6) victory over Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong, Ly Hoang Nam entered the quarterfinals to meet Ukrainian player Yuri Dzhavakian.
