Ly Hoang Nam's 'destructive' form in his first professional pickleball tournament

Specifically, Ly Hoang Nam defeated 3 players Derek To, Phan Van Bao and Chung Tran with the same score of 2-0. Notably, he had many matches that created a huge gap with his opponents when he won 11-2, 11-1 or 11-5. There was only one match that he won with a relatively difficult score of 12-10 against Van Bao, a famous player in the Vietnamese pickleball community and has participated in many large and small tournaments. On October 18, Ly Hoang Nam will continue to compete in the round of 32. His opponent is Mitchell Hargreaves, a professional pickleball player from Australia.

This is only the first time Ly Hoang Nam has participated in a professional pickleball tournament and it is a prestigious, world-class tournament like the PPA Tour Australia - Vietnam Open 2024. However, thanks to his basic tennis skills, he adapted quickly and showed formidable performance.

Ly Hoang Nam was radiant after an extremely successful day of competition.

Ly Hoang Nam shared: "I have only been practicing pickleball for less than a month, about 3 weeks. But thanks to practicing with top Vietnamese pickleball players like Trinh Linh Giang and Truong Vinh Hien, I feel like I am improving very quickly. Therefore, I want to try to experience a professional pickleball tournament, to see how other players compete. This is just the qualifying round so I don't know the quality of the tournament yet. Maybe I have to go deeper to share more clearly."

When asked about whether he would switch to playing professional pickleball, Ly Hoang Nam frankly said: "That thought is there, but it just crossed my mind. I have not made an official decision yet. I still want to play professional tennis, but recently, my results have not been good, so I want to stop for a bit to play other sports like pickleball. For now, I want to play pickleball for fun first and compete in both sports."

In addition to Ly Hoang Nam's match, round 32 of the tournament also has a very attractive match between Truong Vinh Hien and Nguyen Anh Thang - two of Vietnam's top pickleball players at present.
