Supermarket employee wins 25 billion VND lottery after being called to work overtime on weekends

Rebeca Gonzalez (living in California, USA) is an employee at Walmart. While enjoying her weekend, Rebeca received a call from her manager. The Walmart where she worked was short of staff while the number of customers was very high and needed more support.
No one wants to go to work on the weekend, but Gonzalez still had to get dressed for work. At the end of the workday, she bought a lottery ticket and unexpectedly won $1 million.
Gonzalez said she had originally planned to buy a scratch-off ticket from a supermarket vending machine during her lunch break, but the number of customers made her forget about it until the end of the workday. Gonzalez said she will use the huge amount of money "falling from the sky" to pay off her debts, then she and her husband will complete the procedures to buy a new house.
Although Gonzalez is happy to have more money, she is determined to continue working at Walmart as before. She is only taking two weeks of unpaid leave to complete her medical training.
Won 25 billion VND thanks to money found in parking lot
The story of a carpenter in North Carolina (USA) winning 1 million USD thanks to a bill found in a parking lot has caused a stir on social networks.
Jerry Hicks, a carpenter in Banner Elk (North Carolina, USA) found a $20 bill in the parking lot of his store. Using that money to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket, Hicks "won big" when he won $1 million, CNN reported.
According to the information released, the ticket Hicks bought was from Extreme Cash. "I actually wanted to buy another one but the store didn't have any so I bought that one," Hicks said.
Hicks claimed his prize on Oct. 25, 2024, at the North Carolina Education Lottery headquarters. According to the release, he chose to receive the prize as a lump sum of $600,000 rather than an annuity paid out over 20 years. After taxes, Hicks took home $429,007.
The release said Hicks plans to use the money to help his children and retire as a carpenter after 56 years. But before that, Hicks wants to enjoy his win. "We're going to go straight to the Golden Corral and eat everything they have," he said.

In 2020, a Laotian woman in Canada won a $60 million lottery jackpot by playing numbers from her husband's dream 20 years ago.
According to the Ontario Lottery, 57-year-old Deng Pravatoudom has been playing these numbers for the past two decades and she has finally been rewarded with a jackpot.
Mrs. Pravatoudom said she cried when she received the news of winning the jackpot: "I always pray for good luck to come to our family."
The mother of two lost her job in the spring of 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, so she was grateful to receive the money.
"My husband and I have been manual laborers for more than 40 years, we are trying to save little by little for our family," she said, adding: "This money will definitely make our lives easier."
According to CNN, Mrs. Pravatoudom also confided that she used her lottery winnings to buy herself some diamonds, pay all her family's bills and help her children.
"Except when I came to Canada from Laos, I had never traveled anywhere. So I was excited to see the world," said Pravatoudom, who shared that when she first won the lottery, she wanted to go to Texas, Hawaii and Europe.
