The reason why 'Southern Forest Land' was shown early without any editing

Responding to Tien Phong about the film producer still showing Dat Rung Phuong Nam while editing the film's dialogue, causing controversy, the leader of the Cinema Department said that in the meeting on October 14, the Film Appraisal and Classification Council and a number of agencies and functional units re-evaluated Dat Rung Phuong Nam under the direction of the leader of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Accordingly, the Council affirmed that the film Dat Rung Phuong Nam did not violate the cinema law. This is also consistent with the Council's decision on September 29.

However, the producer proactively suggested adjusting some lines to avoid misunderstandings. The activities and lines mentioning the Boxer and the Heaven and Earth Association, as explained by the filmmaker, were groups organized by a number of working people living mainly in Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, and Long Xuyen, unrelated to the movement originating in China.

The Heaven and Earth Association as well as the Righteous Boxers in the film Southern Forest Land were only borrowed by patriotic people in the South at that time to operate independently in Vietnam. Therefore, the producer proposed to edit it to the Righteous Association, Southern Boxers.

The leader of the Cinema Department said that this was the filmmaker's goodwill. He hoped that the producer would soon complete editing this content so that the adjusted version of the film could be shown in theaters as soon as possible.

The filmmaker suggested editing the dialogue related to the Heaven and Earth Society and the Boxer Rebellion.

The producer also put the line "The film is inspired by the novel Southern Forest Land by writer Doan Gioi" at the beginning of the film, to clarify the filmmaker's intention of changing the timeline compared to the literary work.

The work of writer Doan Gioi takes the Southern region as a landmark in 1945, however, the film inspired by the novel has chosen an earlier time, around 1920-1930. At this time, patriotic organizations in the South were still scattered, without the leadership of the Communist Party. The story of An is built with a more adventurous character, associated with characters with the colors of swordplay such as Ut Luc Lam, Vo Tong...

The producer of Dat Rung Phuong Nam previously scheduled the release date from October 20, and the producer released early screenings from October 13-15. However, on October 15, the production side officially announced the early release date from October 16 due to positive feedback from the box office. After three days in theaters, the film earned more than 40 billion VND.
