Specifically, in the first two months of 2024 alone, the number of people entering through La Lay International Border Gate was more than 20,870. Of which, about 19,400 were Vietnamese, more than 1,000 were Lao, and nearly 450 were other nationalities. The number of people exiting through the border gate reached nearly 14,000, of which nearly 12,300 were Vietnamese, nearly 1,500 were Lao, and nearly 150 were other nationalities, an increase of 30% over the same period in 2023.
According to the Head of the Border Control Station, La Lay International Border Gate Border Guard Station, Major Nguyen Thanh Minh, currently, on average, 500-600 people come to complete immigration procedures every day, with peak times of about 700-800 people. To facilitate people, the unit has increased the number of officers and soldiers on duty in a shift to complete procedures and prevent illegal immigration. At the same time, the unit has coordinated with forces at the border gate to organize traffic flow, creating maximum conditions for people to clear customs.
It is known that most of the people leaving the country are mainly from the provinces and cities of Nghe An, Quang Binh, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang... who have stable jobs in Laos, and go to the 4 southern provinces of Laos: Sekong, Champasak, Salavan and Attapeu. The remaining people entering the country are mainly workers staying on duty during Tet in Laos and Lao students returning to provinces in Vietnam to study.
Regarding import and export turnover, information from the La Lay Border Gate Customs Branch said that since applying 2 separate lanes for entry and exit and import and export activities, customs clearance has been faster, limiting congestion at the border gate and increasing import and export traffic. Specifically, in the first 2 months of 2024, the total import and export turnover reached 37.25 million USD, an increase of 51.55%, the total weight of import and export goods reached 278,900 tons, an increase of 52.35% over the same period in 2023.
