Le Van Cong successfully lifted 176kg on his third and final push.
Meanwhile, Omar Qarada (Jordan)'s best result after 3 lifts was 175kg. As a result, Le Van Cong won the Gold Medal, while Omar Qarada won the Silver Medal.
This is a very sweet victory for Le Van Cong. At the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics (actually taking place in 2021), Le Van Cong and Omar Qarada both lifted 173kg.
Because the weights were equal, the two athletes had to consider the secondary index of each person's weight to determine the winner. As a result, Le Van Cong was only 100g heavier than his opponent, so he had to receive the Paralympic Silver Medal.
Then, at the world weightlifting championship last year in Georgia, Le Van Cong could only lift 170kg, while Omar Qarada successfully lifted 174kg.
At this year's world championship, Le Van Cong has just defeated his very strong opponent. Le Van Cong's next big goal will be the 2024 Paris Paralympics in Paris (France).
