Previously, on the afternoon of September 4, athlete Le Van Cong competed in the final of the men's 49kg weightlifting category of the 2024 Paralympics. In the first lift, he completed the weight of 171kg. Although he failed in the next two lifts, this achievement was enough to help Le Van Cong win the bronze medal. This is the first medal of the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. At the same time, for Le Van Cong personally, this is the third Paralympic medal in his career after winning the gold medal in 2016 and the silver medal in 2021. It is worth mentioning that Le Van Cong's medal this year can be called a miracle. Before the tournament, he suffered a shoulder injury due to having to compete continuously to win a ticket to the Paralympics. By the time he received a ticket to the tournament, there was not much time left, so he was forced to both train and receive treatment. Injuries and age, at 40 years old, have somewhat affected Le Van Cong's ability to compete. In the past, he set a world record with a weight of up to 183.5 kg. However, his achievement of 171 kg at the 2024 Paralympics and winning a bronze medal still makes Le Van Cong worthy of praise. After this feat, the athlete born in 1984 received a bonus of 50 million VND from the Vietnam Disabled Sports Delegation.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, Head of the Vietnamese delegation for the disabled at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Nguyen Hong Minh, said that the whole delegation was very happy with Le Van Cong's achievement. Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh also acknowledged that this bronze medal was a great effort of the athlete when he was practicing and treating a shoulder injury. According to Decree 152 issued by the Government in November 2018, athlete Le Van Cong was awarded 85 million VND for the 2024 Paralympic bronze medal. In addition, he also received an additional 100 million VND in bonus from the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. Le Van Cong is an athlete from Ho Chi Minh City. Before the delegation left for Paris to attend the 2024 Paralympics, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee called on social resources to have financial resources to reward the medal-winning athletes.
