Do Thanh Hai and Le Tien Dat are the first athletes of the Vietnamese disabled sports delegation to compete at the 2024 Paralympics. Both will compete in swimming, the 100m breaststroke SB5 category. In this category of the 2024 Paralympics, only 9 athletes will participate and 8 will be in the final. Therefore, Vietnam is sure to have at least one place in the next round. However, both swimmers had a day of trying and making efforts and won the right to enter the final round. In the first round, there were a total of 4 athletes, including Do Thanh Hai. The athlete born in 1990 finished second in this round with a time of 1 minute 35.41 seconds. Thanks to more than 2 athletes, Do Thanh Hai won the first ticket for Vietnamese swimming in the final round of the 100m breaststroke SB5 category. In the second round, there were 5 athletes competing. This time, Le Tien Dat finished in 3rd place with a time of 1 minute 36.1 seconds. The only swimmer who did not win a ticket to the final was Mexican swimmer Pedro Rangel Haro. The fastest swimmer in the qualifying round was Spanish athlete Antoni Ponce Bertran (1 minute 30.45 seconds). Meanwhile, Do Thanh Hai only ranked 4th and Le Tien Dat ranked 5th. Based on these results, it would be difficult for the two Vietnamese athletes to compete for medals in the final. However, Do Thanh Hai and Le Tien Dat can expect to improve their performance as well as have a little luck. The final swim of the 100m breaststroke SB5 category at the 2024 Paralympics will take place at 0:43 a.m. on September 2.
