NDO – On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Vietnamese Engineering Corps, which is performing the United Nations peacekeeping mission at the UNISFA Mission in Abyei, organized the “Mid-Autumn Festival” program for children at the Church at Highway Base, with the participation of nearly 200 local children.
On September 17, information from the Vietnamese Engineering Team, which is performing the United Nations peacekeeping mission at the UNISFA Mission in Abyei, said: In order to create solidarity and closeness between the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at the UNISFA Mission and the local community and government of the host country; to support and contribute to helping children in the Abyei region, to bring a joyful, excited and happy atmosphere to local children, on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Vietnamese Engineering Team organized the "Happy Mid-Autumn Festival" program for children at the Church at Highway base, with the participation of nearly 200 local children.

At the program, the children listened to the representative of the Vietnam Engineering Team introduce the Mid-Autumn Festival in Eastern culture in general and Vietnam in particular. They also listened to the story of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the banyan tree, and Cuoi through an English animated video clip; listened to group dance and singing performances by members of the Vietnam Engineering Team in combination with children from the Church at Highway Base and participated in some folk games.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Engineering Team presented gifts to 10 outstanding students who passed university entrance exams last year in the Abyei area; presented gifts to 5 classrooms at the Abyei Church (5 bookshelves, toys, books).

In addition, children in the Abyei Church area were also given more than 200 recycled toys by the Youth Union and Women's Union of the Vietnam Engineer Corps, which were made from recycled plastic bottles and scrap paper during their holidays and breaks. In particular, the children also had the opportunity to enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival, enjoy cakes, candies, jelly, pumpkin sweet soup, etc.

Speaking at the program, Major Nguyen Mau Vu, Political Commissar of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Engineer Team, affirmed: “We, the Vietnamese blue beret soldiers, have long been a part of the Abyei community and always want to help this land with all our might. The Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a traditional holiday, but also a meaningful moment in Vietnamese culture. We hope that this is an opportunity for the children to feel the care, affection and attachment of the community around them.”

At the program, Ms. Catherine, Principal of Abyei Church School shared: “The children were very happy and joyful to attend today's program. Even though you came from a faraway country, with a different culture, you made the children feel the love without distance. Thank you, brothers and sisters of the Engineering Team! Thank you, Vietnam!”
