Ukraine "broke down" in Kursk, 41st brigade retreated
According to Kienthucnet, during an emergency meeting between the Presidential Office and the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army, organized by President Zelensky and Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Army, General Syrsky, a heated debate broke out about the reasons why the Ukrainian Army is losing more and more positions in the Kursk region.
Part of the units of the Ukrainian 41st Motorized Rifle Brigade, previously deployed in the Kursk region, abandoned their positions and fled south in small groups. Some of the brigade’s soldiers even quickly retreated into Ukrainian territory.
Notably, the 41st Brigade at the time of its entry into the Kursk region during the Ukrainian surprise attack had about three-quarters of its troops enlisted in 2024. Photo: TopWar |
The task of the 41st Motorized Rifle Brigade was initially to capture the center of the Korenevo area, and then to organize defensive fighting in the Olgovka area (east of Korenevo). But the 41st Brigade failed to accomplish any of these tasks.
Now the 41st Motorized Rifle Brigade is also “accused” of allowing the Russian Army to penetrate the defense line and advance further towards Zeleny Shlyakh and Novoivanovka, and now closer to Sudzha, putting the Ukrainian army in a passive position on the entire Kursk front.
It is noteworthy that the 41st Brigade at the time of entering the Kursk region during the Ukrainian surprise attack had about three-quarters of its troops enlisted in 2024; they were all under-trained and under-experienced in combat.
The Brigade's failure to hold Olgovka can be seen as evidence of the Brigade's lack of fighting spirit among its soldiers.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian sources wrote that the “trump cards” of the Ukrainian army, which participated in the breakthrough in the Kursk border area in the first days, have now been destroyed by Russian fire. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, up to 20,000 Ukrainian troops have been eliminated from combat on the Kursk front.
Currently, Russian units are focusing their counterattacks from many different directions on the Kursk front, looking for the weakest positions in the Ukrainian defense line and achieving breakthroughs in these areas. At the same time, organizing diverse attacks, from infantry breakthroughs to the use of guided glide bombs, causing the Ukrainian army's resistance to decrease rapidly.
Russian UAV destroys two Ukrainian armored vehicles with one missile
According to VnExpress, the Russian military released a video of the Inokhodets armed UAV launching a guided missile at a target in Kursk, claiming the missile destroyed two Ukrainian armored vehicles.
" An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) of the reconnaissance unit of the Northern Army discovered a Ukrainian armored vehicle assembly point in a forest near the border in the Kursk region. The command decided to carry out a precision strike after determining the target coordinates ," the Russian Defense Ministry said on October 14.
Russian Defense Television later released video from an infrared camera on a reconnaissance UAV, showing the guided missile hitting a concentrated heat source and creating a large explosion. The reconnaissance UAV approached the area to assess the results of the strike using various sensors, showing at least two separate fires and a large column of smoke rising.
" The crew of the Inokhodets armed UAV destroyed two Ukrainian armored vehicles with a missile. Images from the scene show that the strike hit the target accurately, two armored vehicles and ammunition were detonated ," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The Ukrainian military has not commented on the information.
Ukraine confirms Donetsk stronghold Toretsk is in danger
Ukrainian officials said Russian troops entered the city of Toretsk, Donetsk province, destroying all military targets with artillery.
Anastasiia Bobovnikova, a spokeswoman for the Luhansk Operational and Tactical Group, said in a television news report on October 15: "Russia is advancing into Toretsk, the enemy is using artillery attack tactics. There are no buildings or shelters left intact in Toretsk."
According to Anastasiia Bobovnikova, Ukrainian intelligence shows that Russia is trying to increase the use of artillery and drones in Donetsk to achieve its goals before winter comes.
Ms. Bobovnikova noted that the number of Russian attacks on the Chasiv Yar front has gradually decreased.
Previously, on October 11, Mr. Vasyl Chynchyk, head of the military administration of Toretsk city, said that Ukrainian forces controlled about 40-50% of Toretsk, the remaining territory was under Russian control.
Russia sieges Ukraine in Kursk
Rybar channel said that in the Kursk direction, the Russian army is gradually advancing into a number of important areas. Along with that, the Russian side is also actively conducting airstrikes to prevent the possibility of Ukraine withdrawing troops and domestic defense production for the Kursk battlefield.
In the Glushkovo district, clashes were reported in the northern suburbs of Novy Put. However, it is unclear whether the Iya units have full control over the village?
In the Korenevo district, the Russians are attacking in the Lyubimovka and Tolsty Lug areas. The AFU continues to hold positions to the east of both settlements, trying to avoid being surrounded, but it is only a matter of time.
In the north, the AFU launched an attack on Olgovka with the support of heavy vehicles. Russian units repulsed the attack and inflicted significant losses on the enemy.
Several images from the front line show a destroyed turret of a Challenger-2 tank in the Sheptukhovka area.
In the Sudzha district, Russian units are advancing towards Russkoye Porechnoye from the north, gradually breaking through the AFU defenses in the Nechaevo and Nizhneye Parovoye areas. Control of the forest belts in this area will allow the Russians to create a bridgehead for further offensive development on Russkoye and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye.
To the south, Russian shock groups are advancing towards Agronom and Kolmakov, forming a ring around AFU units at Russkaya Konopelka and Fanaseevka. In the Plekhovo area, the front line is still holding.
According to some reports, in the Sumy region, the Russian military attacked and destroyed the AFU HIMARS complex in Koshary with a precision missile strike. This is not the first HIMARS launcher to be destroyed in this region. The Russian side is closely monitoring the Sumy border area with Kursk. Any AFU movement in the area will be fiercely retaliated with glide bombs and ballistic missiles.
Ukrainian Brigade Launches Shocking Recruitment Move
According to Vietnamnet, since the Ukrainian government allowed military units to organize their own recruitment, the 3rd Assault Brigade has used a very unique method to attract new recruits.
According to the Washington Post (Wapo), due to the increasing difficulty of recruiting soldiers because public opinion is tired of the prolonged conflict, more than 130 brigades of the Ukrainian army have been allowed to conduct their own campaigns to attract new soldiers, without going through the government's recruitment office.
To compete with other units, the 3rd Assault Brigade has launched a promotional photo shoot featuring female models, hoping to attract more members.
" We are in a new era of conflict, and we need a more open view to compete. We want to convey the idea that you will be 'cool' if you join the army. We know this approach will cause controversy, but we hope it will be in a positive way, " said Khrystyna Bondarenko, the Brigade's head of communications and recruitment.
At the photo shoot location, young models can be seen being coached to pose next to a Humvee, while some of the Brigade’s wounded soldiers also took part in the process before returning to the front lines.
" We wanted to lighten the mood. People thought we were trying to pull them into the Brigade, give them a gun and make them live in the trenches. But it wasn't always like that, " said a member of the 3rd Brigade.
The photos were then printed on large billboards and posted on popular media. In addition to receiving a lot of attention from the public, they also earned an additional $15,000 per month from this. The Brigade's YouTube channel currently has 1.3 million followers, and 115,000 on Instagram.
