The National Competition Commission has just released a report on Controlling the quality of goods in e-commerce: Current situation and some recommendations.

At the same time, the e-commerce channel is exploited to defraud and appropriate property with these acts becoming increasingly sophisticated, unpredictable in both scale and area of ​​operation.

Violations in e-commerce are increasing

The summary of the results of the activities of receiving, consulting, and supporting the settlement of requests, recommendations, and complaints of the National Competition Commission shows that in the first 9 months of 2024, this agency received and resolved 64 complaints related to e-commerce, accounting for 9.4% of the total number of cases - an increase of 5.5% compared to 2023.

Notably, statistics from the General Department of Market Management show that in the first 9 months of the year, 2,014 violations were handled, with administrative fines of up to VND35.4 billion and the value of infringing goods of VND29.4 billion related to e-commerce.

According to the National Competition Commission, the current legal framework has sufficient regulations to manage and control the assurance of origin and quality of goods sold on e-commerce platforms. However, due to limited resources of the authorities, many violations still circumvent the law.

Along with that, there are many cases consumer The order and phone number were exposed, leading to calls to receive the goods. These calls were aimed at some regular customers who often trusted and transferred shipping money or goods to the shipper when the recipient was not present. In the end, the customer lost money without receiving the exact product they wanted.

Therefore, the national competition authority believes that in order to strengthen control over the origin and quality of goods sold on the platform, there needs to be synchronous solutions and cooperation between sellers, buyers and state management agencies.

Increase responsibility of e-commerce platforms

First of all, it is necessary to strengthen the responsibility of e-commerce trading floors in granting licenses to post products for sale that have provided sufficient documents proving the products.

Check sellers who do not fulfill their commitments in the contract and regulations during the business process, check actual goods, ensure genuine business, have origin

Platforms must ensure that sellers disclose seller information and product information on the sales channel fully and accurately about the items. There are strict penalties when sellers do not provide enough information to ensure that the sale of items does not violate regulations.

The National Competition Commission also recommends that consumers do not share or disclose personal information, especially information about their orders, to unrelated parties, or parties that may take advantage of personal information to commit fraud and harm the interests of consumers.

Before making a transaction, consumers need to verify and carefully research the information of the seller; this can be done through research tools, introductions, reviews of stores and products... to increase their level of understanding and support their ordering decisions.

Choose to purchase goods and services on reputable e-commerce platforms, especially e-commerce platforms that have been certified and permitted to operate by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and competent authorities.
