On September 6, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) received a Disciplinary Decision from the Disciplinary Board - Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) approved on September 1, 2023 regarding the application of a penalty to player Andre Luiz.
Andre Luiz banned from playing for 600 days.
A day later, VFF sent a dispatch to Nam Dinh Club to inform them of FIFA's decision regarding the Brazilian foreign player.
Specifically, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to ban player Andre Luiz from participating in football-related activities for 600 days globally, starting from May 26, 2023.
Andre Luiz was previously implicated in sports betting manipulation in Brazil in March 2022.
The former Nam Dinh star and 12 other players arranged to create 11m kicks in 3 matches in Brazil's Serie B in March 2022.
After being discovered, Andre Luiz was terminated by Ituano Club. At the same time, he was sentenced by the Brazilian Supreme Court of Sports Justice to a fine of 10,000 USD and a 600-day suspension.
Despite being banned, the player born in 1995 later found a way to hide the scandal and came to Vietnam to join Nam Dinh Club in the second phase of V-League 2023.
After Vietnamese media reported the news, the Southern team still decided to let Andre Luiz play because at that time FIFA had not officially banned this player.
After the 2023 season, Nam Dinh also decided to terminate the contract with Andre Luiz. At the same time, they brought in 3 new foreign players: Hendrio, Coutinho and Rafaelson.
