At the event, President Ho Chi Minh gave a speech, summarizing the most important arguments on science and technology development.
He affirmed: "We all know that our current level of science and technology is still low. Production methods have not been improved much. Working methods are still hard. Labor productivity is still low... The task of science is to strive to change those things... Science must come from production and must return to serve production, serve the masses, in order to increase labor productivity and constantly improve people's lives, ensuring the victory of socialism... You ladies and gentlemen must strive to widely disseminate your scientific and technical knowledge among the working people, so that the people can compete to produce more, faster, better, and cheaper...".
On June 18, 2013, at the 5th session of the 13th National Assembly, the Law on Science and Technology was passed, unanimously choosing May 18 every year as Vietnam Science and Technology Day. This is a festival to honor scientists, introduce the results of scientific research and technological development, and promote the application of science and technology in production.
Over the past 10 years, May 18 has been the day the Science sector has organized hundreds of thousands of events to raise awareness and arouse pride in Vietnamese intelligence, the spirit of passion for creative work among all classes of people, especially the young generation of Vietnam in building and developing the country.
