Part III is 57 random articles - stories on the road under the pen name Ha Van. Part IV includes articles and commemorative photos of 12 friends and colleagues of journalist Tran Duc Chinh.
The book is a tribute and respect from colleagues to journalist Tran Duc Chinh.
In 1994, the name Ly Sinh Su began to appear in the column Say or Don’t of Lao Dong newspaper. Ly Sinh Su is associated with commentaries in the style of “like to provoke trouble” - daring to declare war on bad habits and even paradoxes in life. His articles appear regularly in the weekend and month-end issues and special issues of several other newspapers.
Later, people learned that Ly Sinh Su - the author of hundreds of articles in the "Say or Don't" column of Lao Dong newspaper was journalist Tran Duc Chinh (also known by the pen name (Ha Van, Tran Chinh Duc) - former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Lao Dong newspaper, Editor-in-Chief of Journalists and Public Opinion. He graduated from Hanoi University in 1967. From 1968 to 1972, he was a war correspondent in Vinh Linh (Quang Tri) and the Ho Chi Minh trail. He studied at the Leeningrad University of Culture (former Soviet Union). He worked at Lao Dong newspaper from the end of 1967 but it was not until 1994 that he officially "took charge" of the "Say or Don't " column of Lao Dong newspaper.
Journalist Tran Dinh Thao calculated that, in the first 10 years of putting aside the column Say or Don't , he wrote one article for the column every day, 30 articles a month, 360 days a year, 3,600 articles in 10 years in the form of journalistic sketches. Not to mention that he also had about 10% of his articles published in other newspapers, that is, about 4,000 sketches.
Roughly calculating, journalist Ly Sinh Su has had about 6,000 articles "Speak Well, Don't Publish in Newspapers", meaning he has "caused trouble" with society, with officials, with the mechanism, with wrong things in life and has "addicted" many readers", journalist Tran Dinh Thao said.
And journalist Ly Sinh Su did not just keep the column Say or Don't for 10 years but for 20 years. Until his retirement, at the age of 70, he still regularly wrote articles for this column with an extremely stable, sharp and skillful writing style.
Journalists Luu Quang Dinh and Do Doan Hoang, along with Ms. Mai - wife of journalist Tran Duc Chinh, discussed and exchanged about the book "Speak or Don't", scheduled to be released on June 18, 2024.
Journalist Tran Dinh Thao shared that his colleagues who compiled this book have published the entire professional portrait of journalist Tran Duc Chinh - a unique writer on current affairs and commentary.
“Journalist Ly Sinh Su is a writer who is loved and read by readers every day when they have the newspaper in their hands. His unique, different but coherent, rustic, and humorous writing style strangely attracts readers even though the article is only the size of a “hand” on the page. This book reaches readers when Mr. Ly has just turned 80 years old and just in time for the anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day on June 21 this year,” said journalist Tran Dinh Thao.
Journalist Do Doan Hoang - who always loved and respected journalist Tran Duc Chinh - Ly Sinh Su as "teacher" also confided: "To me, journalist Tran Duc Chinh is a "respectful but distant" teacher who has greatly influenced my career path...
Journalist Huynh Dung Nhan confided: “ When I came to work at Lao Dong newspaper, I truly admired Mr. Tran Duc Chinh - Ly Sinh Su for his skill in plowing the field of words. After more than 20 years of holding the column, he has written tens of thousands of articles. His writing ability makes us young people take our hats off. He is a true joker. He can joke about anything, be humorous, and make jokes. He has a special talent for reducing the tension of the problem, softening the stiffness of dry topics with subtle jokes. That is his own unique feature, his own style, of the column Say or Don't. Satirical without provoking anger".
