Kinhtedothi-On the evening of October 27, in Sam Son City (Thanh Hoa), Thanh Hoa province solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students from the South regrouping to the North (1954-2024) and inaugurated the monument "The Regrouping Ship".
Attending the event were Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia; Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh; Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan; former President Truong Tan Sang; former Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh; leaders of central departments, ministries and branches; leaders of Thanh Hoa province and thousands of cadres, soldiers and students from the South who gathered in the North.
Reading the opening speech, Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Doan Anh stated that this is an event of important historical significance, not only an opportunity to meet and recall emotional and affectionate memories in the North, but also an opportunity to be proud of a heroic period in the nation's history, reminding us of the spirit of great national unity, the sentiment of "North - South as one family", which cannot be divided...
"September 25, 1954 became an unforgettable historical moment, the first ship broke through the waves and entered Lach Hoi - Sam Son estuary amidst the cheers of thousands of Thanh Hoa people, joyfully welcoming the beloved children of the South. In just 9 months (from September 1954 to May 1955), Thanh Hoa province organized the reception of 47,346 cadres, soldiers, 1,869 wounded soldiers, 5,922 students and 1,443 families of cadres from the South; it was the locality that welcomed the largest number of compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students from the South in the country" - Mr. Nguyen Doan Anh said.
According to the Secretary of Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, looking back on the past 70 years, especially after the liberation of the South, the reunification of the country, the reunion of North and South, Thanh Hoa quickly overcame the consequences of war, promoted socio-economic development, and achieved great and comprehensive achievements in all fields...
"Returning to Sam Son today, I witnessed clear changes. The urban infrastructure has been invested in to be spacious and modern, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment areas have been invested and upgraded, creating new attractions for tourists. Sam Son today is not only a land of history and legend, but is also moving towards becoming a key national tourist city. 70 years have passed, the affection of the Northern people, including the people of Thanh Hoa province, for the compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students of the Southern region, once again affirming the truth "North - South is one", "Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one". It is a valuable lesson about the strength of great national unity" - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Doan Anh affirmed.
Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasized that in this solemn moment, with infinite respect and gratitude, we respectfully bow to commemorate beloved President Ho Chi Minh, revolutionary predecessors, and heroic martyrs who heroically sacrificed themselves in the cause of national liberation, liberation of the country, for the happiness of the people.
Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia also sent his warm regards to the families and relatives of millions of compatriots and soldiers from the North and South, who contributed blood, human resources and resources to create the success of the troop transfer, welcoming compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students from the South to the North, an unprecedented event in the history of the Vietnamese revolution.
According to the Head of the Central Propaganda Department, 70 years have passed, but the event of welcoming Southern compatriots to the North has become a deep mark in the history of the nation, in the hearts of many generations of compatriots and soldiers from the North and South; a priceless lesson about "the Party's will, the people's heart"; a shining symbol of the spirit of great solidarity and affirming the truth "Vietnam is one, the Vietnamese people are one. Rivers may dry up, mountains may wear away, but that truth will never change".
To promote the strength of historical and cultural traditions, the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement, and the strength of the great national unity bloc, and to strongly promote the great historical significance of the event of regrouping to the North, provinces and cities across the country, especially those that played an important role in the regrouping to the North such as Thanh Hoa, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Quang Tri, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, etc., need to further strengthen cooperative relationships, closely and effectively connect; during the war we shared food and clothing, during peace we must join hands, be united, maximize the strength of each locality and support each other for a developed and integrated Vietnam.
At the same time, step up propaganda about the stature and historical significance of the gathering event to the North to spread widely throughout the Party and the masses, especially the young generation, about the correct leadership of the Party, of President Ho Chi Minh; the great sacrifices and contributions of revolutionary predecessors, of heroic martyrs and our people... to meet the increasingly high requirements of the fourth industrial revolution, of the cause of building and defending the Fatherland in the new situation.
At the celebration, Thanh Hoa province held an inauguration ceremony for the Memorial Area for Southern compatriots, cadres, soldiers and students regrouping to the North. The project was built from August 2022. After nearly 2 years of construction, the outstanding items of the project area A, including the "Regrouping Ship" monument, have been completed. This is a project of profound historical and humanistic significance, a "red address" educating revolutionary traditions and patriotism for generations of Vietnamese people, an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists when coming to Sam Son.
