"Press the button" watering

In the middle of the vast farm is a wooden stilt house that always welcomes visitors from near and far. Ten years ago, the hill was densely forested, with no entrance and few people passing by. However, when we arrived on the first morning of the week, there were already two groups of visitors to the farm.

The farm is a combination of 4 hills, with large and small roads leading in a fairly orderly manner. The trees are covered, lush green, in the middle of the path there is an underground stream flowing day and night, gently, creating a peaceful scene here. However, that is not the special thing that makes old farmer Bui Quang Trung welcome many visitors every day, but the special thing is that his farm has a large automatic irrigation system with 15 hectares.

This is an automatic irrigation system using Israeli irrigation technology. Including water tanks, pipes, and sprinklers installed throughout the hills. Talking about the opportunity to come to this Israeli irrigation technology, he recalled that many years ago, he had the opportunity to go to the South to learn about the high-tech agricultural model. By chance, he learned about the misting irrigation system using Israeli technology, and he quickly learned. And fortunately, when there was a Project to Restructure the Agricultural Sector towards increasing added value and sustainable development, the province had a policy to support the application of advanced irrigation systems on dry crops. In 2020, he received support from the State for pipes and tanks, and his family contributed more than 100 million VND to build a tank and install an automatic irrigation system using Israeli irrigation technology for his family's 4 hectares of oranges.

With enough moisture, orange trees grow well, produce many flowers, the quality of the oranges is better, the appearance is more beautiful, and the yield increases by 30 - 40%. "If before, manual watering took more than 3 hours every day, now the automatic watering system only needs to be turned on, it takes about 20 to 30 minutes for the tree to be watered enough, thanks to which it grows well and bears more fruit. Before, 4 people watered all day but still could not finish, could not water evenly, wasting water and washing away fertilizer".

Seeing the effectiveness, Mr. Trung determined to invest in "covering" the irrigation system for his farm. Up to now, out of nearly 20 hectares of hills, 15 hectares have this irrigation system, with an investment cost of nearly 400 million VND. He said: "The investment price is... "salty" but it is extremely convenient and effective. Not only watering but also mixing water, fertilizing, and spraying nutrients for plants regularly. The misting and dripping system, "slow and steady rain soaks in" makes the soil fertile, plants grow, and the profits are visible".

On the vast hillsides, the farm is covered with green fruit trees, no longer the image of farmers struggling to drag water pipes around the garden to water each tree. Now, with just a twist of a switch, the whole garden can be watered.

Peaceful Farm

With the professionalism of a gardener, many people mistakenly think that Mr. Bui Quang Trung is a pure farmer, but it was not until he was over 50 years old that he began to focus on farming. During his youth and after getting married and having 2 children, Mr. Bui Quang Trung traveled back and forth doing all kinds of business. And the golden age of this multi-talented man was the owner of 4 gas stations in Ham Yen. He built the largest and most beautiful house in Tan Yen town.

After many years of wandering, going back and forth, experiencing many changes and failures in business, Mr. Trung decided to live in a remote, wild hill in Yen Lam. He said: “Returning to nature, to the hills, taking care of the plants, watching them grow and mature every day, I can see the peace and great meaning of work and life. I jokingly call this a peaceful farm, because when coming here, everyone will feel the relief and peace. There is the sound of birds chirping and every day when the automatic irrigation system waters 15 hectares of crops, the rustling and murmuring sound is full of life, refreshing the soul”.

Mr. Trung firmly told himself: "Just keep working, keep working, if there is an opportunity, just keep doing it because sometimes success is not so important, what is important is that you have found a way to move forward...".

During that process, he was often flexible in changing and implementing innovative models. Such as using short-term to support long-term, intercropping, crop rotation, seeing something new, something good, he applied it immediately. He boldly took the lead in planting fruit trees: grapefruit, orange, lemon... For him, doing business is like building a house, it must be solid, laying each brick firmly to be solid and durable. He seriously implemented it by personally going to the models in and outside the province to learn, then cultivating, planting experimentally, giving good results, then starting to mass propagate. Therefore, when failure occurs, the loss is not great, there is still enough capital to turn to a new direction.

It is with a solid economic mindset and sharp vision that Mr. Bui Quang Trung now owns a large-scale farm with 1,500 orange trees, 500 grapefruit trees, 2 hectares of passion fruit... Annual income of 400-500 million VND.

There were times when business flourished, and times when it failed… And Mr. Bui Quang Trung chose to start a farming career when he was over 50 years old. Now, he is a real farmer - the owner of a large fruit farm. He confidently said: “Life has ups and downs, just consider it normal. It is never too late to start a business at any age if we are determined and make an effort, then all efforts will be rewarded.”
