Vietnam-Laos leaders agree to focus on effectively implementing agreements

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith

On the afternoon of October 8 in Vientiane, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly congratulated Laos, in its capacity as ASEAN Chair 2024, for successfully organizing important ASEAN Conferences and conveyed the wishes of General Secretary, President To Lam, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; firmly believed that with careful and professional preparation and experience gained in its role as ASEAN Chair in 2004 and 2016, Laos will successfully organize the ASEAN Summit and AIPA 45, thereby making practical contributions to the stable, sustainable development and growth of the region, while enhancing Laos' role and position in the international arena.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always attach importance to and give the highest priority to the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, considering it a priceless asset, an objective requirement, a top priority, the number one choice and a vital factor for the revolutionary cause of the two countries, which needs to be preserved for future generations.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that he will direct Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities to closely coordinate with Lao ministries, branches and localities to effectively implement high-level agreements between the two countries, including the Vietnam-Laos Joint Statement during the state visit of General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith to Laos from September 10-13, 2024.

General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for leading the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation to attend the ASEAN Summit in Laos; and sent his thanks to General Secretary and President To Lam and senior Vietnamese leaders for their warm and fraternal welcome to the Lao high-ranking delegation during their recent state visit.

The Lao Party General Secretary and President expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's valuable assistance, both material and spiritual, in the spirit of "The less torn leaves cover the more torn leaves" to help Laos quickly overcome the consequences of floods and storms; highly appreciated Vietnam's active support for Laos during its term as ASEAN Chair in 2024, affirming that Laos' success in its role as ASEAN Chair has important contributions from Vietnam.

General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed that in the coming time, the two sides need to focus on effectively implementing cooperation agreements and treaties between the two countries, especially the results of the recent meeting between the two Politburoes of Vietnam and Laos in Hanoi; further strengthening the connection between the two economies of Vietnam and Laos and between the three economies of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia; continuing to regularly exchange experiences and information, closely coordinate and support each other at international and regional forums, especially at ASEAN, the United Nations and sub-regional mechanisms.

In the context of complicated developments in the world and the region, the two sides affirmed to continue to foster the Vietnam-Laos relationship "forever green, forever sustainable", bringing economic cooperation to increasingly develop substantially and effectively, commensurate with the political relationship, in order to better meet the practical interests of each country and suit the development needs in the new period.
