For the first time, many works and artifacts of painter Le Ba Dang brought back from France are on display.

On the afternoon of June 18, the People's Committee of Trieu Phong district (Quang Tri) held a press conference to announce an exhibition of fine art works by artist Le Ba Dang with the theme "Aspiration for Peace". This activity is part of the series of responses to the first Peace Festival organized by Quang Tri province. This is the third time an exhibition about artist Le Ba Dang has been held in his hometown.

The exhibition, organized by the People's Committee of Trieu Phong district in coordination with the family of painter Le Ba Dang, displays fine art works including genres and creative stages in the creative life of painter Le Ba Dang.

The exhibition is scheduled to take place from July 7 to 14, at the private home of painter Le Ba Dang's family in Bich La Dong village, Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district, open from 9am to 9pm daily.

The exhibition displays 150 works in the genres of oil paintings, watercolors, sketches, Lebadang graphic paintings, woven carpets, wooden statues, stainless steel statues, bronze statues, terracotta, B52 aircraft wreckage, with themes of anti-war, praising the beauty of the homeland... These works were brought from France for the first time and exhibited in Vietnam.

"These works were painted in the 1950s and 1960s and were brought back from France. We are lucky to have a work made from the wreckage of a B52 plane shot down in Vietnam, waiting for customs clearance in Ho Chi Minh City," said Mr. Le Hong Phuong, a member of Mr. Le Ba Dang's family.

Works from 1960 - 2005 include: oil paintings, watercolors, wall tapestries, wooden statues, bronze statues... In addition, the exhibition also includes historical documents of artist Le Ba Dang such as activities welcoming President Ho Chi Minh, negotiation delegations of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam; anti-war activities of artist Le Ba Dang and his wife in Paris, France...

Through these works, the organizers want to honor the value of peace, calling on everyone to join hands to fight, preserve, and build a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable life for the homeland, country, and humanity.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu - Vice Chairman of Trieu Phong District People's Committee - said that after the exhibition, the family will donate some works to the district for auction and organize charity activities. "The district also wants to have a space to display and commemorate painter Le Ba Dang, becoming a tourist attraction in the district," Mr. Vu said.

Painter Le Ba Dang (1921 - 2015) was a famous French painter and sculptor of Vietnamese origin, born in Bich La Dong village (Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province).
