On April 17, information from the People's Committee of Tra Vinh province said that in order to introduce and promote to tourists the images of Cau Ke homeland, the tourism potential of the district, especially the delicious fruits of Cau Ke to tourists, especially wax coconut products, the Provincial People's Committee will organize the 100-year Wax Coconut Festival at the end of August 2024.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tra Vinh province will coordinate with the People's Committee of Cau Ke district - the locality with the largest wax coconut area in the province - to organize. This is the first time that Tra Vinh wax coconut, famous for its deliciousness and uniqueness, has its own festival.

Tra Vinh is the province with the second largest coconut area in the Mekong Delta (after Ben Tre ), with nearly 27,400 hectares, annual output of about 444 million fruits, of which there are more than 752 hectares of wax coconut (most concentrated in Cau Ke district).

The wax coconut festival aims to honor the unique values of Tra Vinh wax coconut and make efforts to bring products made from wax coconut to the world market. Thereby, raising awareness of building, preserving and developing the brand as well as promoting internal strength in the whole province.

The event also facilitates trade of goods, connects supply and demand, and contributes to promoting the economic and social development of Cau Ke district in particular and Tra Vinh province in general.

The festival will feature a contest to prepare 100 delicious dishes from wax coconut (expected to set a Vietnamese record), a workshop on the current status and potential of Cau Ke native wax coconut, a display of delicious fruits, a talk on Cau Ke tourism - potential along the Hau River, a trade fair, sports activities, folk games...

This provincial-level event is also combined with the organization of Vu Lan Thang Hoi Week in Cau Ke district. On this occasion, the decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to certify this as a national intangible cultural heritage will be announced.

Wax coconuts are grown a lot in Cau Ke district, Tra Vinh province because of the suitable soil conditions. Notably, not all wax coconut trees produce wax coconuts and not all coconuts in a bunch have wax. Therefore, the value of wax coconuts always surpasses that of other types of coconuts.

Wax coconut, also known as solid coconut, creamy coconut..., does not have thick coconut water, is softer and creamier than regular coconut, the coconut water is as clear as dew. The coconut inside contains a thick coconut meat to meet the highest standards. If there is water, it will be very little and this type of water must be thick, sweet and delicious, a specialty only available in Tra Vinh province.

Until now, people still use the wax coconut meat to blend with sugar, milk or add durian, cocoa to use as smoothies, or this coconut meat can be eaten directly.
