On January 9, scientists and management agencies announced the initial results of the excavation of the East and West moats of the Ho Dynasty Citadel. Many artifacts of great historical value were found, and the scientific basis for the scale and architecture of the moat was determined.

The Ho Dynasty Citadel is a unique stone architectural work in Vietnam, built in just three months (from January 1397). The citadel is also known as Tay Do (or Tay Giai) to distinguish it from Dong Do (Thang Long, Hanoi). This place was the economic, political and cultural center at the end of the Tran Dynasty and the capital of Dai Ngu for 7 years (1400-1407). Lần đầu tiên phát lộ cấu trúc hào thành thành nhà Hồ

Many valuable artifacts were found.

The Ho Dynasty Citadel consists of three parts: La Thanh, Hao Thanh and Hoang Thanh. Of these, the most massive and still relatively intact structure to this day is Hoang Thanh. The other two parts have been destroyed by time and war, and now only faint traces remain. On June 27, 2011, at the 35th session of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Ho Dynasty Citadel was recognized as a world cultural heritage. At 2   In the excavation pit of 7,000 m2 (the eastern pit is 3,000 m2 wide, the western pit is 4,000 m2 wide), researchers found many small-sized stone blocks, some pieces of architectural materials such as rectangular bricks, red tiles and ceramic artifacts, production and living tools from different early and late periods (dating from the Ly Dynasty to the Tran, Ho, Le So, Nguyen dynasties...). For the first time, historians found the structure of the Western Moat corner as well as the reinforced foundation of the Ho Dynasty Citadel. From this discovery, historians unanimously concluded that the Moat is an important part of the Ho Dynasty Citadel. The moat is 50-60 m wide, about 6.8-7.2 m deep, and its length has not been determined. Lần đầu tiên phát lộ cấu trúc hào thành thành nhà Hồ

The excavation process has revealed the structure of the Citadel.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Ba Linh, Deputy Director of the Ho Dynasty Citadel Heritage Conservation Center, said: “Scientists have worked very carefully and actively. There are many bases affirming that the citadel is reinforced with many layers of crushed stone and solid clay, capable of withstanding natural disasters and changes of time”. Professor, Dr. Luu Tran Tieu - Chairman of the National Cultural Heritage Council shared: “The discovery of the corner structure of the citadel is an important discovery, contributing to determining once again the scale, value, architecture and location of the citadel and Tay Do citadel. In addition to the cultural and historical value, in the long term, it is necessary to have an in-depth workshop and soon find a plan to restore the citadel, contributing to further promoting the historical value of the Ho Dynasty Citadel and attracting tourists in the future.” This is the third time (after 2015 and 2016) that archaeologists have excavated the Ho Dynasty Citadel. In the two previous excavations, not many artifacts and traces of the Moat were found like this time. Source: https://congly.vn/lan-dau-tien-phat-lo-cau-truc-hao-thanh-thanh-nha-ho-60515.html
