Binh Thuan has a 192 km long coastline, mainly consisting of calm bays, especially Phan Thiet beach, so every year this place has to "receive" a large amount of waste from the ocean washing ashore. Every time the southwest monsoon season blows strongly from the sea, the Hon Rom - Mui Ne area is also the time when ocean waste follows the waves to the shore. The bigger the waves, the more waste, the tide rises and then recedes, leaving behind the waste.
The reason why a large amount of ocean waste washes ashore is due to waste from the mainland flowing through underground pipes, rivers, streams... into the sea. Besides, it is due to people's awareness when littering in rivers, littering unconsciously on the streets, wind and rain wash it down the drain into the sea. Tourists when visiting, participating in recreational activities, eating and drinking on the sea and beaches, due to lack of awareness, litter into the sea or the coast. Waste from seafood fishing activities, damaged fishing nets and tools thrown away or dropped into the sea and waste from ships traveling at sea for a long time are also the cause of increased waste at sea...
The current situation of garbage at beaches at the beginning of the Southwest monsoon season (April) and Northeast monsoon season (October) every year can be seen to be mostly due to plastic waste and damaged fishing gear during the exploitation of aquatic products by people. In addition, in the tourism sector, plastic products used in most services provided to tourists are also the cause of increased ocean waste. In recent days, a number of beaches in Mui Ne and Ham Tien wards, Phan Thiet city have seen a lot of garbage including plastic bottles, moss, ropes, plastic strings, clumps of oil, etc. washing up on the shore. Local people said that at this time, a lot of ocean garbage drifts onto the beach. In addition to garbage, in recent days, in the area behind the sea in Mui Ne ward, Phan Thiet city, clumps of oil and seaweed have also drifted ashore. This situation is causing many concerns and requires the community's cooperation to clean up the coast from ocean waste. Accordingly, the local authorities of Mui Ne and Ham Tien wards mobilized cadres, employees of tourist areas and people in the ward to clean up the beach. After a few days of joining hands with the support of transport vehicles, a large amount of garbage was collected and processed, returning the beach clean and beautiful. That meaningful activity has created a widespread movement to join hands to protect the marine environment and tourism. In particular, environmental protection activities are increasingly spreading among the people, not only through awareness of throwing garbage in the right place, but also joining hands to clean up the environment through specific actions such as collecting garbage on the beach, in residential areas and tourist areas. It must be affirmed that local authorities and people are very hard-pressed to deal with ocean waste washed ashore. When ocean waste washed ashore, local authorities and associations coordinated with the Provincial Tourism Association to organize a clean-up campaign. Besides, make a plan to collect and clean up garbage daily at tourist areas, beaches...
To keep the coast clean and beautiful, the Provincial People's Committee regularly directs the Phan Thiet City People's Committee to focus on solving the problem of waste from the sea drifting ashore, and at the same time, collect and treat waste. The Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Binh Thuan Urban Environment and Services Joint Stock Company to coordinate with the Phan Thiet City People's Committee and the People's Committees of coastal wards and communes to collect waste. The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Provincial Tourism Association to mobilize tourism service businesses to coordinate in organizing the collection and treatment of waste remaining on the beach and mobilize funding from tourism service businesses to invest in specialized equipment for collecting, transporting and treating waste.
Tourism development associated with environmental protection is also of special interest to tourism businesses and they have taken very practical actions to join hands in protecting the tourism environment and preventing ocean waste. In addition, they collect, classify and treat waste in service and tourism establishments in accordance with regulations, call on and guide tourists to participate in protecting the marine environment...
