Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that although Vietnam's peacekeeping force is still relatively young, it has made many important and outstanding contributions to international peacekeeping activities over the past 10 years.

On May 24, in New York (USA), the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations solemnly held the "Celebration of the 76th Anniversary of United Nations Peacekeeping Day and 10 years of Vietnam's participation in United Nations Peacekeeping Activities" under the chairmanship of Ambassador, Head of the Mission Dang Hoang Giang.
According to VNA correspondent at the United Nations, the ceremony was attended by peacekeeping officers from the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam working at the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the Vietnamese Military Attaché to the United Nations, the Permanent Representatives of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and Vietnam Television (VTV) in New York, and all leaders, officers and staff of the Mission.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang reviewed the formation, development and contributions of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force over the past 76 years in carrying out the mission of maintaining peace, security and creating a favorable environment for sustainable development in many regions of the world; pointing out the difficulties and challenges facing current peacekeeping activities, especially in the context of complicated international developments, geopolitical competition and increasing conflicts.
Warmly congratulating the military and police officers and soldiers who have been performing peacekeeping duties at the UN Missions and headquarters on this meaningful occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that although the Vietnamese Peacekeeping Force is still relatively young, it has made many important and outstanding contributions to international peacekeeping activities over the past 10 years, which have been highly appreciated by the leaders of the United Nations as well as the authorities and people in the host countries.
That result affirmed the extremely correct policy of the Party and State when deciding to send Vietnamese forces to participate in United Nations peacekeeping activities from June 2014, contributing to the successful implementation of the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of international relations, enhancing the role and position of Vietnam as a responsible and active member of the United Nations and the international community.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang also emphasized that the successful implementation of the policy of participating in peacekeeping activities was thanks to the support and direction from the highest leadership levels of the Party and State, and the close coordination of relevant agencies, especially the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.
In particular, with their efforts, sacrifices, courage and creativity in carrying out their duties, units and individuals directly participating in peacekeeping activities have contributed to spreading the image and value of the Vietnam People's Armed Forces "born from the people, serving the people."
Colonel, Military Attaché Nguyen Duc Quan, on behalf of Vietnamese officers working at the United Nations, thanked the Ambassador and the Delegation for their affection and close attention to peacekeeping work and Vietnam's participation in related activities of the United Nations; affirmed that he will continue to strive to successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Party and State.
Lieutenant Colonel Luong Truong Vinh and Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hai Ngoc, on behalf of the Peacekeeping officers of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Public Security, expressed their emotion and pride in representing Vietnam to participate in the United Nations "blue beret" force.
In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, all delegates observed a minute of silence to pay tribute to the officers, soldiers and UN Peacekeeping staff who died while on duty, including martyr Lieutenant Colonel Do Anh of the Vietnam People's Army.
On May 29, 1948, the United Nations officially deployed the United Nations Peace Supervision Organization (UNTSO) Mission to maintain the implementation of the armistice agreement between Israel and Arab countries.
Since then, May 29 every year has become United Nations Peacekeeping Day.
Over the past 75 years, more than 2 million peacekeeping officers and personnel from 125 sending countries have served in 71 United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, of which more than 3,000 have died in the line of duty.
2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Vietnam deploying its forces to participate in peacekeeping missions. Since then, over 800 blue beret soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army and the Vietnam People's Public Security have departed for UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan, the Central African Republic, the Abyei region and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations at the United Nations Headquarters, as well as participating in the European Union peacekeeping force in the Central African Republic./.
