In the list of key tasks of Quang Nam to implement Resolution 82 dated May 18, 2023 of the Government, there is the construction of a night-time economic model suitable to the advantages and conditions of the locality, combined with the development of diversified tourism products in the period of 2023 - 2025.
In May 2024, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the People's Committee of Hoi An City to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to study and learn from the orientations, policies and experiences of night-time economic development of countries such as Australia, Thailand and domestic localities to develop and pilot the Night-time Economic Project/Model in accordance with local advantages and conditions.
In the Project on developing the night-time economy in Vietnam approved by the Government since 2020, it allows a pilot project to extend the time for organizing night-time service activities until 6:00 a.m. the next morning at some tourist spots and areas in some major cities/tourist centers, including Hoi An.
However, up to now, Hoi An is still struggling in the process of promoting the night economy to increase economic value as well as destination value.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Son - Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, Hoi An currently has a pilot plan to develop a "night street" on Nguyen Phuc Chu Street (Minh An Ward) and a night economic commercial area in Tan Thinh - Tan My (Cam An Ward), but the assigned authorities have not yet submitted a specific plan.
“Hoi An is very active in promoting the development of the night economy, but the current procedures are facing many difficulties. For example, the Tan Thinh - Tan My night economic zone project has to wait quite a long time for the authorities to announce specific information to put it on the investment call list and is waiting for many other procedures to be completed before the project can be completed,” said Mr. Son.
Statistics show that in Hoi An, the average number of guests staying is only over 2.1 days and nights/guest, while the room occupancy rate has only fluctuated around 50% in recent years. Even in the first 6 months of 2024, the total number of domestic guests staying in Hoi An only reached 36% of the annual plan, the average number of days of stay of domestic guests in Hoi An is also very low (only 1.4 days and nights/guest).
Post-COVID-19, some provinces and cities with strengths across the country are having a clear breakthrough in tourism revenue. This is partly due to the efforts of localities to promote the night-time economy.
Meanwhile, although Quang Nam tourism also has good growth with the number of international visitors always ranking among the top in the country, tourism revenue is still quite far from the top 10.
Developing the night-time economy is now a common trend. If we do not quickly promote and catch up, it will be difficult for Quang Nam to reach the leading local tourism groups nationwide, not to mention the possibility that the gap will widen further.
