“Monument” of Vietnamese swimming village – Nguyen Thi Anh Vien said that swimming is not difficult at all. She shared with Thanh Nien many experiences when learning to swim as well as how to handle difficult situations.

In Vietnam, where there are many canals, lakes, rivers and streams across the country, swimming is increasingly popular among people, especially children. However, not everyone has the basic knowledge to save themselves when they fall into the water. Not only with many years of experience in competitive swimming, Anh Vien also gives friendly advice if you encounter an accident in your daily life.

"The most important thing when swimming is your breathing. If you accidentally slip and are panicking, try to calm down. Everyone just needs to try to lift their face above the water, take a breath and hold it, and stay calm to regain balance on the water. That way, your body will be somewhat safe. In the river, if there is water hyacinth, calmly hold the roots of the water hyacinth to float, because I used to do that when I was little," Anh Vien shared.

The female swimmer born in 1996 also shared that when drowning, the possibility of death is very high or can leave behind severe brain damage. However, if the victim receives timely, active and proper first aid, there is a chance of being saved. Therefore, proper emergency treatment in this case is very important.

Anh Vien said: "People on the shore, when encountering a drowning person, absolutely cannot jump in to save them. The drowning person will be very panicked. When clinging to the rescuer, it will be easy for the rescuer to drown with them. People on the shore should also calmly find something floating to save them. If the rescuer is a good swimmer, they should only contact the back and not the front, which will be safer."

A slogan that Anh Vien hopes will have more influence to help not only children but also adults always remember, so that when there is an incident related to drowning, people can save themselves and avoid tragic situations, is: "Stay calm and live, panic and drown".
