Director Kim Jee Woon, author of the horror masterpiece A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), will appear at the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF) from April 6 to 13 as a special guest.
HIFF 2024 is scheduled to screen three of his works, including The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008) - produced by producer Jeawon Choi - one of HIFF's advisors.
This director-producer duo will be present at HIFF 2024 with many special exchange activities and workshops.
Who is Kim Jee Woon?
Not only is Kim Jee Woon one of the most successful filmmakers in Korea, he is also a rare director who has received recognition from both critics and general audiences for his art and commercial films.

Kim Jee Woon began his career as an actor, stage director and screenwriter. In 1998, he turned to film directing with his debut work The Quiet Family (1998).
The film attracted attention when it premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival, winning the Best Film award at the Fantasporto Film Festival.
Entering the 21st century, Kim Jee Woon continued to leave his mark on audiences and professionals with outstanding projects such as the sports comedy The Foul King (2000), the horror masterpiece A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), and the revenge horror film I Saw the Devil (2010).
Despite being 60 years old, director Kim Jee Woon always challenges himself to enrich his impressive film career, he is still working hard on making films with his most recent work being Cobweb. will be shown in Vietnamese theaters at the end of 2023.

Movie lovers are probably familiar with the horror blockbuster A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) - a work considered a breakthrough in Asian cinema, due to its new way of exploiting the theme of psychological suggestion.
The film won 12 major and minor domestic awards and was remade by two Hollywood directors - Charles Guard and Thomas Guard with the title The Uninvited in 2009.
Up to now, the movie A tale of two sisters is still regularly discussed and analyzed on movie-loving forums on YouTube and Facebook.
Learning opportunities at HIFF
In addition to the categories for filmmakers to compete, the first HIFF also attracted hundreds of thousands of attendees with thousands of guests, including about 200 filmmakers, directors and actors from countries around the world.
The presence of top names such as directors Kore-eda Hirokazu and Kim Jee Woon at HIFF created a sense of excitement among the film-loving community in Vietnam.
For the first time, audiences in Vietnam have the opportunity to witness meetings between elite representatives of Asian and world cinema.
This is also an opportunity for Vietnamese filmmakers to gain a deeper understanding of the cinematic styles of masters and learn techniques and approaches to audiences from famous art films, in a context where Vietnamese art cinema is increasingly developing and achieving many international successes.
