Director Kim Jee Woon, the creator of the horror masterpiece A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), will appear at the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF) from April 6 to 13 as a special guest.
HIFF 2024 is expected to screen three of his works, including The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008) - produced by producer Jeawon Choi - one of HIFF's advisors.
This director-producer duo will be present at HIFF 2024 for various networking activities and special workshops.
Who is Kim Jee Woon?
Not only is Kim Jee Woon one of the leading successful filmmakers in South Korea, but he is also a rare director who has gained recognition from both critics and the general public for his art house and commercial films.

Kim Jee Woon began his career as an actor, stage director, and screenwriter. In 1998, he transitioned to film directing with his debut work, The Quiet Family (1998).
The film garnered attention when it premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and won the Best Film award at the Fantasporto Film Festival.
Entering the 21st century, Kim Jee Woon continued to make his mark on audiences and critics with outstanding projects such as the sports comedy The Foul King (2000), the horror masterpiece A Tale of Two Sisters (2003), and the revenge horror film I Saw the Devil (2010).
Despite being 60 years old, director Kim Jee Woon constantly challenges himself to enrich his impressive film career, and he continues to work tirelessly on films, with his most recent work being *Cobweb*. It was screened in Vietnamese theaters in late 2023.
Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to collaborate with top Korean stars such as Song Kang Ho, Lee Byung Hun, Jung Woo Sung, and others.

And A Tale of Two Sisters
Film enthusiasts are probably already familiar with the horror blockbuster A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) - a work considered a breakthrough in Asian cinema, due to its innovative approach to the theme of psychological suggestion.
The film won 12 major and minor awards domestically and was remade by two Hollywood directors, Charles Guard and Thomas Guard, under the title The Uninvited in 2009.
To this day, the film A Tale of Two Sisters is still frequently discussed and analyzed on film enthusiast forums on YouTube and Facebook.
Learning opportunities at HIFF
In addition to the categories for filmmakers to compete in, the first HIFF also attracted hundreds of thousands of attendees and thousands of guests, including about 200 filmmakers, directors, and actors from countries around the world .
The presence of leading names such as director Kore-eda Hirokazu and Kim Jee Woon at HIFF created a sense of excitement within the Vietnamese film community.
For the first time, audiences in Vietnam have the opportunity to witness the encounters between outstanding representatives of Asian and world cinema.
This is also an opportunity for Vietnamese filmmakers to gain a deeper understanding of the cinematic styles of masters and learn techniques and approaches to audiences from famous art films, in the context of Vietnamese art cinema increasingly developing and achieving international success.
