That is the opinion of Mr. Le Huu Toan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for National Target Programs of Kien Giang province.
Promote OCOP product development
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province, to date, the province has 269 products meeting OCOP standards; of which 6 OCOP products have achieved 5-star rating, 36 products have achieved 4-star rating, 227 products have achieved 3-star rating, with more than 130 entities. With the diversity of products and quality, the province's OCOP products have great potential for commercialization and deep access to markets.

Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Kien Giang province, Le Huu Toan, also said that after more than 10 years of implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction, it has become a vibrant and widespread emulation movement throughout the province, with the motto "People know, people discuss, people do, people check and people benefit".
Thereby, helping rural socio-economic infrastructure such as bridges, roads, medical stations, schools, etc. to be invested synchronously, creating conditions for people to develop production and business, improving the quality of life. Not only that, hundreds of agricultural production models and OCOP product development have been formed, contributing to increasing income for rural people and sustainable poverty reduction.
Up to now, 100% of inland communes, inter-hamlet and inter-commune roads have been asphalted and concreted, with a total length of more than 6,800/9,565 km, reaching a rate of over 71%. Electricity infrastructure, schools, and medical stations have been invested in. Rural people's lives have been increasingly improved and raised, with average income per capita in rural areas increasing from 46.7 million VND/person (in 2020) to 57.8 million VND/person/year by the end of 2013.
Increase people's income
Ms. Le Thi Kim Thoa, Director of Hieu Phat Agricultural Service Cooperative (Phong Dong Commune, Vinh Thuan District) said: Vinh Thuan District is considered the "capital" of shrimp farming in Kien Giang Province, with favorable natural conditions that help farmers here raise three types of shrimp (tiger shrimp, whiteleg shrimp and giant freshwater prawn) combined with one-crop rice cultivation for quite high efficiency. With this strength, the district's dried shrimp products are made by many people to sell on a small scale or as gifts for relatives and are popular with everyone.

After a period of research and concern about developing dried shrimp into a typical product and being encouraged by the local government, in early 2019, Ms. Thoa established a cooperative specializing in purchasing raw shrimp and fish and supplying dried shrimp, dried fish, and sour shrimp paste products in 2019. After 2 years of establishment, by the end of 2021, dried shrimp, snakehead fish sauce, and dried goby fish products were recognized as products of Hieu Phat Agricultural Service Cooperative, which was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product.
From 2021 to present, on average each year the cooperative processes and supplies to the market about 13 tons of dried shrimp, dried snakehead fish, dried goby fish, and sour shrimp paste to many provinces and cities across the country. The cooperative purchases shrimp and fish from people at a price 10-15% higher than the market price, while creating jobs for more than 20 workers with an income of about 8 million VND/person/month.
“I am very excited and grateful to the locality for supporting capital from the new rural development program as well as promptly guiding the cooperative to build a brand, expand the market to develop production and business to help increase income for rural people,” said Ms. Thoa.

Mr. Pham Huynh Quoc Thanh, Director of Kim Hoa Fish Sauce Company Limited (Phu Quoc, Kien Giang), said: His company currently has 2 products that meet 3-star OCOP standards and is creating regular jobs for about 40 workers, with an income of 8-13 million VND/month/person.
“The OCOP program has created conditions for local specialties in general, and Phu Quoc Kim Hoa fish sauce in particular, to enhance their value and brand, expand their markets to improve business efficiency. Therefore, the company has further promoted its spirit and responsibility to create quality, safe products to preserve and promote the value of the products that our ancestors have built for over a hundred years,” said Mr. Pham Huynh Quoc Thanh.
According to the Kien Giang Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, it has recently implemented a connection program to bring OCOP products, typical products, and typical rural industrial products of Kien Giang that are eligible to be sold at the Co.opmart supermarket system. Accordingly, there are 5 units that are eligible to bring products into the Co.opmart system, including: Thanh Phu Trading and Service Company Limited (honey and dried banana products); Bao Nam Food Company Limited (sim jelly products); Thanh Thanh Agricultural Service Cooperative (dried shrimp products); Coco An Nhien coconut production facility (ring-lid pineapple coconut products) and 2 Dau soursop tea facility (soursop tea products)...
