The meeting reaffirmed its commitment to fully implement the ASEAN Regional Action Plan on WPS as well as promote the WPS Agenda in the Work Plan of the ADMM+ Expert Working Groups for the period 2024-2027.
The ASEAN Defence Ministers extended their commitment to promoting women’s full, equal and meaningful participation and leadership in all areas of peace and security, particularly in the prevention, management and resolution of armed conflicts, as well as post-conflict peacebuilding and reconstruction towards a stable, peaceful and secure region.
The conference also called for greater participation of women in decision-making, and encouraged equal opportunities for women in the fields of defence and peacebuilding.
The ASEAN-plus Heads of Defence expressed support for the use of UN training modules to enhance women’s capacity and expertise in participating in policy-making; preventing, managing and resolving armed conflicts; and post-conflict peacebuilding and reconstruction.
The commitment to strengthening regional frameworks for the implementation of the Women for Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda is emphasized in the Joint Statement, to protect, respect and promote the full realization of the rights of women and girls in the face of ongoing and emerging security threats and challenges.
The ASEAN Defense Ministers stressed their commitment to promoting women’s capacity building, participation and leadership as policy makers in all decision-making processes at all levels, through relevant institutional processes and mechanisms within the ADMM+ or cooperation among ADMM+ countries.
