On December 18, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee said it is urgently completing the Van Phong Airport Planning Project for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, to report to the Ministry of Transport and submit to the Prime Minister for investment policy proposal.
According to the proposal of the consulting unit, Van Phong Airport will be built in Van Thang commune (Van Ninh district) with a total investment of about 7,000 billion VND. By 2030, the capacity of the airport will be 2.5 million passengers/year, with 9 aircraft parking positions. The length of the port is 3,050m, the airport is level 4E.
In case of increased passenger and cargo numbers, the port will be expanded, potentially increasing its capacity to 10 million passengers per year with 27 aircraft parking positions.
Van Phong Airport is invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) and BOT (build-transfer) contract.
The project has an estimated area of 500-550 hectares. Currently, this area is aquaculture land, sea surface and is suitable for the general planning of Van Phong Economic Zone, Khanh Hoa province until 2040, with a vision to 2050.
Some areas are rice farming areas.

According to calculations, Van Phong airport will be about 130km from Cam Ranh International Airport and nearly 100km from Nha Trang city.
This area has DT651C traffic connection axis, with roadbed of about 3m.
Song Goc Bridge was built with a permissible load of less than 15 tons.
The sea surface where Van Phong airport is proposed has 3 large and small islands, belonging to Van Phong Bay.
This area is also about 1km west of Highway 1.
