KBS reported that this exercise was hosted by the Air Combat Command of the Republic of Korea Air Force, with the participation of more than 90 aircraft.
Of which, the Korean Air Force mobilized F-35A, F-15K, KF-16, FA-50, F-5 fighter jets and KA-1 light attack aircraft; the US Air Force dispatched A-10 attack aircraft, and the US Army mobilized MQ-1C unmanned aircraft.
Short-range air-to-air missiles such as the AIM-9X and AIM-120B, bombs and air-to-ground missiles such as the GBU-31 and AGM-65G hit the simulated target.
The South Korean Air Force said that this exercise was planned in advance, focusing on establishing a readiness posture to deal with enemy provocations, improving pilots' ability to operate weapons and attack targets.
In particular, through the exercise, the Korean Air Force also determined the armed capabilities of the newly upgraded KF-16 fighter, also known as the "KF-16U" version.
During this exercise, for the first time, the KF-16U equipped with the 5th generation AIM-9X air-to-air missile successfully conducted a live-fire exercise.
