Tran Thanh is one of the artists in the entertainment industry who receives special attention from the audience. Recently, his statements and actions have received mixed reactions from the audience.
VTC News reporter had an interview with media expert Nguyen Ngoc Long about this special character.
After the noise about his statements and behavior, Tran Thanh continues to be the MC of "Rap Viet" season 3 and "Who is that person" season 5.
- Recently, Tran Thanh has always been the center of public opinion. Any information about Tran Thanh always receives the attention of the audience, many people praise but also many people criticize. In your opinion, why does Tran Thanh create such an effect?
It is easy to understand why Tran Thanh became the center of public opinion because he is a famous person. When you are a famous person, every move, every statement, every action becomes the center of attention to attract the media, public opinion, press and especially social networks.
It is true that Tran Thanh is receiving a lot of criticism from the public, but Tran Thanh has not been boycotted. We have many different levels of public treatment of an artist. And here, for Tran Thanh, it has stopped at being hated, criticized, and disparaged, but not boycotted.
And I think it is difficult to find a reasonable reason to boycott Tran Thanh because everything this male MC does is related to his statements. His statements may cause discomfort but no one is harmed, and have not affected any specific person, organization, or individual.
Tran Thanh cried on TV or made statements like "brilliant halo", "artist life is hard to swallow", lamenting his fate, making the audience feel uncomfortable. But in the end, when asked if Tran Thanh harmed anyone, the answer was no.
As for Huong Giang Idol, she went on a TV show to insult NS Trung Dan - a specific character. As for Tran Thanh, it's not to that extent, at least not in the recent period.
"It's true that Tran Thanh is receiving a lot of criticism from public opinion but has not been boycotted yet."
- Is public opinion being too harsh on Tran Thanh?
I think not because Tran Thanh's statements, gestures, and actions really make viewers feel uncomfortable and disrespected. Therefore, it cannot be said that the audience is harsh on Tran Thanh.
Moreover, he is a famous artist. Many great artists in the profession such as My Tam, Son Tung, Thanh Loc,... also have to endure that, but they understand that when enjoying special privileges, of course they have to accept the strictness, scrutiny, and judgment of fans and public opinion. That is the natural trade-off.
If Tran Thanh feels that the audience is too harsh, it's best to stop his artistic activities and become a normal person, then no one will be harsh on him.
- In your opinion, from the media perspective, will the audience's reaction this time have a big impact on Tran Thanh's career?
I think there is some influence but not too much. Firstly, Tran Thanh has a large fan base. Secondly, more importantly, the cause of this incident does not create serious consequences, does not affect honor, dignity, does not gain profit,... but only makes the public uncomfortable.
No matter how upset the audience is, it is still a matter of personal perception. It is difficult to use that as an excuse to boycott Tran Thanh or other brands.
Furthermore, for an artist, I think they have two issues that greatly affect them. The first is the audience's affection for them, the second is the brands' turning their backs. Brands only turn their backs when there is a boycott from users. And users who want to boycott must have a reasonable reason to boycott. Audiences today are very smart people who know how to look at things. If they boycott, they will be civilized and polite, not because of subjective reasons. Not boycotting the brand that Tran Thanh advertises will not greatly affect his career.
As for whether the audience will turn their backs on him or not, I think it's both yes and no. Those who have liked Tran Thanh up until now will most likely still like him, maybe a small number will like him less. And those who hate him will still hate him. So I think it won't have much of an impact.
Tran Thanh received a lot of criticism after his "brilliant halo" statement.
- In your opinion, what should Tran Thanh do to limit the negative emotions of the audience towards him after the recent scandals?
Tran Thanh needs to take a step back and reconsider his role. Tran Thanh's statements mostly come from his arrogance and blatant talk. Tran Thanh may not declare like Dam Vinh Hung, thinking he is a "king", but the way Tran Thanh acts and behaves gives me the feeling that he is too delusional about his role.
You may have achieved certain successes as an MC, comedian, or high-grossing film producer, but that doesn't mean you've become a "king and queen" whose words become the truth and everyone must obey you and listen to your teachings. That doesn't happen.
In the end, Tran Thanh himself is not an artistic monument that brings value to society. He is just a pure entertainment artist. He may be talented in his own field, but he is not irreplaceable. If Tran Thanh tries to disappear for a while, he will see that life is still the same, everything still moves, there will be someone who can completely replace him, no one will remember his presence.
I think the public's reaction teaches Tran Thanh a lesson: when you have the necessary level of calmness, you should step back and look at things more broadly, comprehensively, and calmly. Then, immediately, there will be a change inside you, leading to appropriate behavior and conduct.
- In your opinion, Tran Thanh needs to take a step back to recognize his role, but recently, the male artist has just returned as the MC of "Rap Viet" season 3 and "Who is that person" season 5. What challenges await the male MC when leading this program, especially when, before being involved in the scandal, Tran Thanh has also caused a lot of controversy in his hosting style?
I think the challenge here is not about being criticized by the audience, but the challenge comes from Tran Thanh's nature and personality. Up until now, Tran Thanh has always had such a formula, and the audience is reacting to that. So he will be pressured to be himself or not. If he continues to follow such a formula, will the audience be uncomfortable? And if he doesn't do it, what should he do? This is a huge challenge for Tran Thanh.
- Is this male artist taking a risk by accepting to host these programs at a time when the audience is reacting?
As I said, this is not a story of being boycotted, but accepting to host these programs at this noisy time is quite risky for Tran Thanh. Tran Thanh has two options, one is to stay silent and wait for everything to pass before coming back. Two is to come back at this time and become the center of public opinion. But it also has the advantage that if you are really good, excellent, you will prove to the audience that the audience will "turn around".
This way of doing things is very risky, but if you ask me whether it is worth doing or not, I think it is. Especially for a proud person like Tran Thanh, choosing this way of responding is quite smart, quite "Tran Thanh": The more the audience criticizes me, the more I will prove it with my success.
