Exploiting the strengths of craft villages - Enhancing the value of OCOP products

Hanoi is home to many scenic spots, historical sites and craft villages. This is an advantage for the city to develop tourism associated with promoting OCOP products of traditional craft villages, creating attractive experiential tours for visitors.

Hanoi, with over 1,300 craft villages, is the leading locality in the country in terms of the number of products meeting OCOP standards. By the end of 2024, the entire city will have over 3,000 OCOP products that have been rated as OCOP from 3 to 5 stars. Each OCOP product is the crystallization of creativity and talent of each craft village artisan to promote and introduce to domestic and foreign tourists, thereby enhancing the value of Hanoi's craft villages.

The Huy Hue Nem Thinh facility in Dai Thanh commune has been operating for 6 years. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue, owner of the Huy Hue Nem Thinh facility, shared: With the desire to expand the market and sell the facility's products to service restaurants at tourist destinations not only in Quoc Oai district but also throughout the city, the facility has also participated in product classification and achieved 3-star OCOP standards in 2024. This is the premise for the facility to expand production and create culinary products to attract tourists when traveling to the locality.

Coming to Tan Hoa vermicelli village on the days before Tet, you can see the urgent and bustling atmosphere of the people here to prepare goods for Tet. Currently, the whole commune has about 60 households producing dong vermicelli. Mr. Duong Dinh Khoi, one of the people who has succeeded in bringing So village vermicelli to the world with the main markets being: Korea, India, Japan, America... Every year, Duong Kien Production, Trade and Import-Export Company Limited earns about 5 million USD for the country and dominates the domestic market. Mr. Khoi as well as 60 households in the craft village hope to connect the craft village to become a tourist destination for visitors to visit and experience the craft village as well as admire the landscape of their hometown to spread vermicelli products further and develop further.

As part of the tourism development project of Quoc Oai district, Lang So communal house is famous nationwide for its antiquity, bearing the unique characteristics of the Northern Delta that many tourists want to visit and study. Mr. Vuong Dac Lap, Chairman of Cong Hoa Commune People's Committee said: With the regional advantage and more than 170 diverse and rich OCOP products, it has really attracted tourists to Quoc Oai land to experience and immerse themselves in nature as well as historical relics that have risen and fallen over the years.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang, Head of the Economic Department of Quoc Oai district, assessed: With many historical relics and famous scenic spots, Quoc Oai district is building a master plan to develop OCOP products associated with local craft village and resort tourism activities.

With its regional advantages, Quoc Oai needs to create a "push" to awaken the tourism potential here. The district needs to proactively innovate products, invest resources to renovate and restore relics, build tours and routes and increase promotion on information channels and social platforms to attract tourists to visit and relax.

Tan Phu Commune, Quoc Oai District has a traditional Yen Quan carpentry craft, famous for its sophisticated wooden products specializing in rosewood beds, tea cabinets, wooden art works and making temples and pagodas that require high skills. Since the implementation of the One Commune One Product program, the whole commune has had more than 30 craft village products from 3 to 4 stars, helping the craft village become known to many people. Mr. Hoang Doan Hoa, Chairman of the Yen Quan Carpentry Village Association, shared: In the direction of developing craft village tourism, along with improving the landscape and environment, Tan Phu Commune is also making efforts to build a display point to introduce OCOP craft village products, creating a place for sightseeing, shopping and experience for tourists.

As a land of hundreds of crafts, Thuong Tin district determined that through the implementation of the One Commune One Product Program, it will be an opportunity to plan and improve the development of local traditional craft villages. Mr. Bui Cong Than, Vice Chairman of Thuong Tin District People's Committee, said: After 4 years of implementing the One Commune One Product program, Thuong Tin district has had 180 products meeting OCOP standards from 3 to 4 stars. In 2024, Thuong Tin district will evaluate and classify 48 OCOP products in all fields, mainly agricultural products and craft villages.

Mr. Ngo Van Ngon, Deputy Chief of Office of the Hanoi New Rural Development Coordination Office, said: By the end of 2024, the entire city had evaluated and classified over 3,000 OCOP products from 3 stars to 5 stars. Hanoi has also opened over 100 points to introduce and sell OCOP products, of which more than 20 OCOP points are associated with tourism and craft villages, creating highlights to promote specialty agricultural products and traditional craft villages of each locality.

Along with the evaluation and classification of OCOP products, Hanoi also focused on building 10 Creative Design Centers, introducing and promoting OCOP products in craft villages that are operating effectively to introduce and promote local products associated with historical and traditional cultural relics and maximize the participation of people, artisans and the participation of units and businesses.

The program "One Commune One Product" was built and implemented by Hanoi to focus on developing products from the advantages of resources, culture, and labor in rural areas to increase income, solve employment for residents and develop sustainably. Developing craft villages associated with the program One Commune One Product and promoting craft village tourism will help increase the value, income as well as enhance the brand of craft village products, attracting many tourists to visit and shop in the capital of a thousand years of culture.
