On the evening of November 14, at the Provincial Convention Center, the Department of Grassroots Culture in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Binh organized the Red River Convergence mass art performance.

Comrade Nguyen Tien Thanh, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council congratulated the opening of the festival.

On behalf of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, there was comrade Nguyen Quoc Huy, Deputy Director of the Department of Grassroots Culture, Deputy Head of the festival organizing committee.

The 2024 Red River Convergence Mass Art Festival is a major cultural and artistic event of the Red River Delta region, organized to preserve, promote and honor the value of traditional Cheo art of the nation in the process of innovation, integration and national development. The festival contributes to introducing a unique folk performing art form closely associated with people's lives; meeting the feelings and desires of the people and international friends to have the opportunity to learn and enjoy the quintessence of traditional Cheo art. The festival is an art activity held every 2 years, first held in Ha Nam province in 2022. This year, Thai Binh province hosts with the participation of 8 art troupes from provinces and cities in and outside the Red River Delta region: Ha Nam, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Vinh Phuc, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa and Thai Binh.

Comrade Pham Van Nghiem, Provincial Party Committee member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee delivered the opening speech at the art performance.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Comrade Pham Van Nghiem, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee warmly welcomed the art troupes participating in the festival. He emphasized: As a province in the Red River Delta region, Thai Binh has long been considered one of the "cradles" of Cheo art. Cheo has become the pride of the people of the rice fields. It is even more proud that Thai Binh folk performing art has been included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage; at the same time, Thai Binh province, representing 14 provinces and cities nationwide, has built and completed the Cheo art dossier to submit to UNESCO for inclusion in the list of representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Over the years, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee have always paid attention to leading, directing, and issuing many specific mechanisms and policies for artists and artisans in promoting and preserving the values ​​of the nation's cultural heritage; Many projects to develop the art of Cheo have been implemented in schools, hundreds of Cheo clubs have been established in communes, wards, villages, residential groups, agencies, and units, all of which have created a strong vitality for the art of Cheo among the masses. With this profound meaning, the hosting of the Red River Convergence mass art festival in Thai Binh province this year further affirms the value of Cheo art in contemporary society.

Right after the opening ceremony, a large audience from inside and outside the province watched the first part of the festival: The Cheo skit “The Sacred Letter” performed by the Thai Binh Provincial Cultural Center’s Mass Art Troupe. This work is based on a letter written to the future by martyr Le Van Huynh, from Le Loi commune, Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh province, to his family during the fierce fighting days to protect Quang Tri Citadel.

The Red River Convergence Mass Art Performance will take place until November 17.
