"Less than 3 million VND to go abroad, I decided without hesitation"
After a 3-day, 2-night tour to explore Chau Hong Ha (Yunnan Province, China), Ms. Lan Phuong (Kien Thuy District, Hai Phong) admitted that she did not think that at this price there would be such a quality tour.
“The price I paid at the end of September was 3.1 million VND/person. Because I am not fluent in the language, my husband and I decided to book a tour to experience autumn in China. As soon as we looked at the schedule and price, we decided without hesitation because with this amount of money, traveling domestically on our own could not be cheaper,” said the 40-year-old guest.

With this tour, Vietnamese tourists will depart from Lao Cai border gate to Binh Bien, Kien Thuy and Mong Tu in Yunnan province. The group will travel by car on the highway, and can use a passport but not required. In fact, if you buy the tour at the border gate, it will only cost 2.8 million VND/person (including all expenses for food, accommodation and transportation, minus tips for tour guides).
According to a quick survey by Dan Tri reporters, Chau Hong Ha tour is currently one of the best-selling China tours on the market and especially attracts Vietnamese tourists thanks to meeting 3 factors - suitable time, cheap price, reasonable food and accommodation services.
It is known that since April 2023, after China reopened, the Yunnan provincial government quickly took action, changing policies to stimulate tourism, actively promoting a 6-destination route "Kunming - Mong Tu - Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh".

Specifically, Vietnamese visitors do not need a passport to come here, using a passport can enter and exit the country for the longest stay (maximum 7 days 6 nights). This is also the area where Vietnamese visitors can go the deepest into Chinese territory (more than 300km) with just a passport.
Mr. Luu Hoang Diep, Director of S9 Travel Company based in Hai Phong, said that from the beginning of the year until before super typhoon Yagi, an estimated 120,000 Vietnamese tourists had booked this tour.
“This destination attracts visitors thanks to its open procedures and quick travel. On the Chinese side, tourists travel by car on the highway for a short distance and a not-so-busy itinerary, so they have time to rest,” said Mr. Diep.
When asked by reporters about the situation where customers who buy cheap tours tend to be forced to shop and the tour guide's attitude will change if the customers refuse to buy, a representative of another travel agency that is also offering this tour affirmed that "there are shopping destinations in the itinerary".
“However, customers can shop freely with a comfortable mindset without being forced. This is not a zero-dollar tour, so customers will definitely not be forced to buy anything,” the representative said.
China Tour continues to dominate the race
Besides, other traditional tours in China continue to be welcomed by Vietnamese tourists at the end of the year.
Ms. Vu Bich Hue, Head of Communications at Flamingo Redtours, said that the groups departing in October to China are 100% booked. The company is currently accepting bookings for groups departing from November onwards.
According to Ms. Hue, compared to traditional foreign destinations favored by Vietnamese tourists such as Japan, Korea, and Europe, China has a slight advantage, suitable for both individual and group tourists.

“China has many strengths that make their tours attractive to Vietnamese tourists, such as majestic landscapes with a rich cultural history, diverse product lines suitable for many customer groups, simple procedures, and convenient flights,” said a representative of Flamingo Redtours.
The golden routes chosen by Vietnamese tourists include the Shanghai - Hangzhou - Wuzhen tour (5 days) with a package price from 15.9 million VND; the Beijing - Shanghai - Hangzhou - Suzhou tour (7 days) with a package price from 23.9 million VND; the Chengdu - Jiuzhaigou tour (6 days) with a package price from 16.6 million VND; the Zhangjiajie - Phoenix Ancient Town tour (6 days) with a package price of 10.5 million VND; and the Lijiang - Shangrila tour (6 days) with a package price from 18.9 million VND.
In the higher-end segment such as the 6-day Xi'an - Beijing tour priced from 23.9 million VND; the 8-day Xi'an - Dunhuang tour priced from 35.9 million VND; the 9-day Tibet tour priced from 47.9 million VND and the 11-day Xinjiang tour priced from 69.9 million VND, operated by HanVina Travel, there are still customers but this product line is quite picky.
“Currently, the number of customers booking these tours by the end of the year is about 70%. Compared to other times of the year, Vietnamese customers prefer to go to Xinjiang and Tibet this season because they want to experience autumn and see the snow,” said Mr. Nguyen Tien Duc, CEO of HanVina Travel.

Similarly, Ms. Mai Dung, representative of Danh Nam Travel, said that the price of China tours this year has not fluctuated much compared to the same period last year, so it still receives the attention of Vietnamese customers.
Although the number of passengers in September decreased due to the impact of the super typhoon, this unit still has Vietnamese tourist groups departing regularly in October.
