Striker Pham Tuan Hai continued to have a successful year when he scored 1 goal and had an assist in the final match of the AFF Cup 2024, helping the Vietnamese team defeat the Thai team and win the championship. In the new year 2025, the star from Ha Nam set a big goal of going abroad and playing successfully.
- Hello Tuan Hai, how was your last year?
I think I have had a year of hard work and results. Winning the AFF Cup 2024 is a great pride and honor for every player. I was trusted and had the opportunity to play in the final and score. After the match ended, I still watched that goal. Now I focus on the new goal.
Tuan Hai wants to play abroad.
- A tournament where you were on the bench a lot but got to play in the final, was that a surprise?
I don't think much about it, but I'm always ready in both training and matches so that when the coach calls me, I can immediately play with all my ability. I still have faith that coach Kim Sang-sik will use me in the second leg of the final. I'm ready for any situation.
- Tuan Hai is the highest-paid player in Vietnam. There have been opinions that players with large assets will be affected in their motivation to compete?
I disagree. Every player has the desire to contribute to the Vietnam team. Wearing the national team jersey is a great honor for a player. I am ready to shed blood for the national team, under any circumstances.
- Tuan Hai has enough individual and collective titles but why is he still a bit quiet?
That's my personality, I'm introverted and don't like things to be flashy on social media. I'm also afraid of crowds. I have a few "old" hobbies, for example, when I have to play away from home or the club, I ask my teammates to take care of the plants.
Tuan Hai had difficulties at some point.
- What will you do with the bonus money you earn?
Personally, I will have to save money to take care of my life after football, partly for my family and doing charity work, helping people. I don't have many pleasures outside of life, I wake up early in the morning, eat breakfast and drink coffee, tea to relax and then practice.
- What will you do this Tet?
I will definitely return home right after the last training session at Hanoi Club. I think football players are also normal people, all looking forward to the moment of reunion, returning to their loved ones during Tet. I look forward to having moments of rest.
- Reaching the age of 26, having achieved many peaks, is that enough for you?
Certainly not enough, I want to challenge myself more. Every day that passes, I push myself to try harder because I know I am still lacking, I try harder to improve. I still lack and have not fulfilled my dream of going abroad to compete. Going abroad successfully is what I want to do, I hope I can create a turning point so that in the future Vietnamese players will be more confident to step out to compete, helping the country's football develop.
- Is the export process still going on?
During the past time, Hanoi Club has helped me a lot in finding a team abroad. I hope that I will be able to fulfill my wish once. The AFF Cup championship has proven that Vietnamese football is coming back. My teammates and I have more confidence. In the near future, in 2025, I will try to play well for Hanoi and try to play abroad.
