Indian visitors to Vietnam increased nearly 15 times compared to the 'golden age' of 2019

Reporting on the 2023 work summary, Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Ho Minh Tan said that the aviation transport sector has recovered and received positive growth signals in the past year, reflected in aspects such as: airlines (transport force) continue to promote exploitation activities; the international flight network has been restored and expanded; the domestic aviation market has fully recovered, growing compared to 2019; the international market is gradually recovering and is forecast to soon reach the 2019 level in 2024.
In 2023, the aviation industry will serve about 74 million passengers, an increase of 34.5% compared to 2022.
The total air transport market in 2023 is estimated to reach approximately 74 million passengers, an increase of 34.5% compared to 2022, equal to 93.6% compared to 2019 (before the Covid-19 pandemic) and 1.1 million tons of cargo, down 9.3% compared to 2022, equal to 87.3% compared to 2019. International passenger transport reached 32 million passengers, an increase of 1.7 times compared to 2022, equal to 77% compared to 2019. The Civil Aviation Authority assessed that the international flight network has been restored and gradually expanded. Vietnamese and foreign airlines have completely restored flights to traditional markets, while expanding to exploit a number of new markets in the Central Asian region such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Mongolia. Although still limited, in 2023, flights to China and Russia have also been restored. Notably, Vietnamese airlines have also stepped up their operations to operate routes to the Indian market. In the past year, they transported 920,000 passengers, an increase of nearly 15 times compared to 2019, and the Australian market transported 913,000 passengers, an increase of 40%. The domestic flight network is maintained and developed with 66 domestic routes connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang with 19 other local airports with more than 600 flights per day. In addition to operating existing routes, in 2023, Vietnamese airlines will also operate a number of new routes such as Can Tho - Van Don, Hanoi - Ca Mau, Ho Chi Minh City - Dien Bien. According to the forecast of the Department and Vietnamese airlines, the demand for air passenger transport in 2024 will be from 80 million passengers, of which domestic passengers will be 38.3 million and international passengers will be 41.7 million. Based on the assessment of the supply capacity of airlines and the air transport indicators in 2024, the Civil Aviation Authority expects the passenger transport volume to reach 80.3 million passengers (an increase of 7.1% in passengers compared to 2023). Of which, domestic passengers will be 38.5 million passengers (down 10.5%), international passengers will be 41.8 million passengers (up 30.6%). The volume of goods transported next year is estimated at 1.16 million tons (up 4.8% compared to 2023). Of which, domestic goods will be 210,000 tons (up 10.5%), international goods will be 950,000 tons (up 3.6%). Vietnamese airlines are estimated to transport 58 million passengers, equivalent to this year. However, the number of domestic passengers next year is forecast to decrease by 10.5% to 38.5 million, while international passengers are estimated to reach 19.5 million, up 30% compared to 2023.
