Conclusion of the case of hundreds of people hospitalized after eating Co Ba Ben Dinh bread

(NLDO)- Of the 342 patients poisoned after eating bread from the bakery - sticky rice shop Co Ba Ben Dinh in Vung Tau, 105 patients are currently being treated.


On the afternoon of December 1, Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, chaired a meeting of the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee to hear reports of food poisoning cases related to the sandwich and sticky rice shop Co Ba Ben Dinh (Ward 7, Vung Tau City).

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province requested that in December, relevant units must strictly, thoroughly and thoroughly handle violations; at the same time, expand the investigation into the origin of related foods and need to have strong sanctions to deter violating food service establishments.

In addition, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province also requested to clearly define the roles and responsibilities of relevant organizations and individuals in management work and propose solutions and report before December 5.

Regarding patients being treated at hospitals, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned Vung Tau City and the Department of Health to direct the care of patients at hospitals. In addition, review regulations and procedures for food hygiene and safety management to strictly control; strengthen post-issuance inspection of food hygiene and safety certificates in the province.

At the meeting, the Department of Health announced that the test results detected Salmonella spp bacteria in samples of boiled pork, pork pate, pork sausage, raw vegetables (green onions, cilantro), and pork sauce; Escherichia coli bacteria in raw vegetables (green onions, cilantro) exceeded the allowable limit. For the sample of the specimen (vomit), no Salmonella spp was detected.

Vung Tau City leaders visit emergency patients at the hospital

Based on the results of epidemiological analysis of individual investigations and the results of testing food samples and specimens, it was concluded that the incident at Ms. Ba Ben Dinh's bread and sticky rice shop was a food poisoning incident caused by microorganisms (Salmonella spp, Escherichia coli) that resulted in 342 cases, with symptoms of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and fatigue.

Among the 342 patients who suffered food poisoning from eating bread and sticky rice from this facility, one death was recorded. Provincial leaders, departments, and Vung Tau City visited and expressed condolences to the victim’s family, presented 30 million VND, and supported the patient’s burial.

As of the morning of December 1, there are 105 patients being treated at Vung Tau Hospital and Ba Ria Hospital, and their health is currently stable.

According to authorities, three Co Ba Ben Dinh bakeries were suspended on the morning of November 27.

These establishments do not have a business registration license; do not have a certificate of food safety eligibility; the establishment owner and workers do not have a list of those trained in food safety knowledge, and do not have a health certificate. The case has been transferred to the provincial police for further investigation and handling according to regulations.
