Some cried, some laughed about the overnight queue to buy application forms for first grade in Ho Chi Minh City.

"Happy as passing university entrance exam"

At 2:03 p.m., after nearly 22 hours of waiting, Ms. T. (Binh Thanh District) was the first person holding the application form for grade 1 at Saigon University Practice Primary School, walking out amidst the applause and cheers of other parents.

Ms. T. said she was very happy to have purchased the application form after a long wait. Due to the heat of the first grade enrollment, Ms. T. was present at the school at around 4:00 p.m. yesterday (June 16).

"I was the first person to line up to buy the application form. The school processed the application form purchase procedure very quickly, only about 5-10 minutes from the time it opened for sale," Ms. T. shared.

Meanwhile, Ms. Tu Anh's family (District 7) had to mobilize the whole family of 3-4 people to take turns lining up since 9:30 p.m. yesterday. She said that last night everyone had to sleep on the sidewalk because they were afraid that if they left, they would lose their place.

"When I arrived, there were already 4-5 people in line. Luckily, my husband and I arrived quite early so there were still numbers available," the female parent said.

Ms. Tu Anh said she had been waiting since last night and it was not until 2:00 p.m. today that the school office called each person in turn to consult on the study program. Only parents who agreed with the school's program and met all the required conditions could purchase the application form.

Mr. Tri (District 3) was present since 9pm yesterday and was also among the first to buy the application form. Mr. Tri said that his house is near the school so he also hopes that his child will have the opportunity to study in a good educational environment.

Mr. Nguyen Thai Anh (District 11) said that since this morning he only ate a light meal of cake and had a cup of coffee at noon to stay awake enough to wait.

"Although it was quite a struggle, I was very happy to finally be able to buy the application form. It was worth the wait since 10pm yesterday. The school's organization of the application form sale was also very orderly," said Mr. Thai Anh.

Mr. Chung (Binh Thanh district) also anxiously stood outside waiting for his wife to line up inside.

"The feeling of waiting outside was just as exciting as going inside. After buying the application, my wife was as happy as if she had passed the university entrance exam," said Mr. Chung.

Buying a profile does not guarantee admission.

Ms. Thanh Thanh (District 4, HCMC) said that after purchasing the application, the school spent time consulting very carefully with the parents. Even though she had purchased the application, she was still worried because she still had to go through another round of approval by the school.

"The school has two types of classes: intensive classes and integrated classes. If you register for intensive classes and fail, you will not have the chance to return to integrated classes," said Ms. Thanh.

Besides the parents who were happy to buy the application form, many parents regretted not having the opportunity. Mr. T. (Binh Thanh District) said he did not think he would have to queue since yesterday. Therefore, he arrived at the school around 1 p.m. but did not have the opportunity to enter the "parking lot".

Ms. Trang, a bank employee, struggled to line up and register early in the morning but missed her turn because she left her seat.

"I lined up early and signed up, thinking it was safe so I went back to work this morning. When I came back in the early afternoon, I missed my turn because parents had to be present and line up," Trang sadly said.

According to Dan Tri reporters, after 10am on June 17, the school stopped receiving parents lining up to buy application forms because the number was already full. Many parents had to leave with regret.

At nearly 4 p.m., many parents were still waiting for their turn to buy application forms. Families were still providing food and taking turns lining up.

Many parents were tired from staying up all night waiting. Many brought blankets, mats... to sleep on the sidewalk waiting until morning to go to school.

Saigon University Practice Primary School enrolls 150 students, a decrease of 25 students, equivalent to nearly 15% compared to the previous school year. The admission method is that parents directly receive the application form at the school and the school considers the application based on the application.

The application period starts from 2:00 p.m. on June 17 until all applications are released. Parents need to bring their child's birth certificate and the father or mother's ID card for verification.

Parents submit application from June 19 to June 20; Admission results will be announced on July 1.
