Iran's Fars news agency also reported that a loud explosion was heard at an airport in the Iranian city of Isafahan, but the cause was not yet clear. Some flights have been asked to divert from Iranian airspace.

The attack came five days after Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles in retaliation for an airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Syria on April 1, which Tehran blamed on Israel. Most of the drones and missiles were shot down before reaching Israeli territory.

Iran stated that its attack was within the framework of international law, citing Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and affirmed that it had no intention of continuing this activity and did not seek to escalate tensions in the region.

The international community is currently continuously calling on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid escalating tensions in the region.

Flights over the cities of Isfahan, Shiraz and Tehran have been suspended.

Mehr news agency also said all flights to and from Imam Khomeini International Airport in the capital Tehran were canceled until 7am GMT.
