Last year's iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max got a new 48MP camera and a Dynamic Island cutout, while the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus models retained the 12MP main camera and notch. This year, all iPhone 15 members get a Dynamic Island and a 48MP main sensor. However, not all 48MP cameras are created equal.
The main camera on the iPhone 15 could be better than the iPhone 15 Pro.
According to reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the main camera on the iPhone 15 could be better than the iPhone 15 Pro. He says the standard iPhone 15 models will use a stacked sensor design, something the Pro won't get until next year.
Sony’s manufacturing issues could be one of the reasons why the entire lineup won’t get the new technology. Theoretically, the triple-stack sensor should allow the iPhone 15 to capture more light than the iPhone 15 Pro for higher-quality images, which should give it an advantage when it comes to camera quality.
Only the Pro models will get a telephoto camera, though, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max expected to get a periscope lens for up to 6x zoom. Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will have a larger 48MP main sensor than the iPhone 15, which could offset the stacked sensor technology advantage the standard iPhone 15 has.
The high-end models are also said to come with better chips, sleek bezels, and titanium bodies, but this could come at a higher price. Apple is expected to announce its new phones on September 13.
