The match against Japan on the evening of November 1st was the last match of Mr. Mai Duc Chung as the coach of the Vietnamese women's team. The Vietnamese women's team lost 0-2 to Japan, but Huynh Nhu, Kim Thanh and many other players were probably not too sad about this. Their hearts were heavy, their emotions were mixed as they were about to say goodbye to a familiar figure, to a respected teacher.
Huynh Nhu gave the number 9 shirt filled with the team's feelings to coach Mai Duc Chung.
After the match, the Vietnamese women's team stayed on the field. On behalf of the whole team, Huynh Nhu gave coach Mai Duc Chung a special and meaningful gift, which was a shirt with the number 9. On this shirt, all members of the team sent their best wishes and feelings... to the 74-year-old coach.
Sharing with Thanh Nien over the phone, coach Mai Duc Chung emotionally said: "I read the sincere and profound words written by my students on their shirts and felt choked up. Even Chuong Thi Kieu, who was not with the team this time, was asked by Nhu to write on her shirt, to give to the teacher after the match. I was very choked up."
Huynh Nhu shared: "I remember the first day I practiced with you, that year I was sent back to the club. You also told me to try harder. Since then, I have tried very hard to return to the team. Thanks to that, I have Huynh Nhu today. During the time working with you, I learned a lot, the love and humility from a great person, a teacher who always has a warm heart. I wish you good health and happiness with your family. For Vietnamese women's football, you are forever."
Goalkeeper Kim Thanh considers coach Mai Duc Chung a respectable teacher and father.
Goalkeeper Kim Thanh emotionally expressed: "In 2019, at this place, you trusted me with the opportunity to compete and achieve more success than expected. In 2023, also at this place, you said goodbye to me and Vietnamese women's football. What you have brought to me and Vietnamese women's football are achievements that deserve to be cherished. More specifically, you brought Vietnamese women's football to the World Cup for the first time, which is truly wonderful. I wish you good health, happiness with your family and in life. Thank you, great teacher, respected father."
