It's been 20 years since the first Motorola RAZR V3, and many people are still hoping that Motorola will somehow bring back the great flip phone of the past. The current flip design with the flexible display of the Motorola Razr 50 is a marvel, and it just keeps getting better.

Technological devices but... fashionable
The upgrades of the Razr 50 (in some markets called Razr 2024) compared to the old version are mainly in the design. Motorola punched a hole in the screen to put the camera cluster in, instead of cutting a part of the screen to... avoid it like the design of the Samsung Z Flip5.
It should be noted that the Razr 40 released in 2023 only had a small LED screen on the outside. This upgrade will have a complete secondary screen on the outside. That makes the Razr 50 have all the elements to compete with foldable phones from other manufacturers.
Once again, Motorola is offering color options with bright orange and peach. The Razr Plus is a hot pink, and there are some nice earth tones on the Razr. Motorola has a tradition of adding color options to its models at least twice after launch, once a few months after launch and then again when the next version comes out. Before the Razr 50 was introduced, Motorola added a Pantone color, Peach Fuzz, to the Razr 40. These colors will also be available on the Razr 50.
The Razr 50 comes in a few fun colors, including Spritz Orange, Koala Gray, and the eye-catching Beach Sand. But best of all, these colors are presented on vegan leather, not synthetic plastic or metal.
Admittedly, flip phones are still more expensive than their “colleagues” with the same configuration. If users care about design, do not want cases but choose neatness, femininity and fashion, flip phones are clearly a good choice.

Comprehensive upgrade, no price increase
Motorola has managed to upgrade everything that was already great on the Razr 50, while also adding some features that the original lacked, like the external display, chipset, and even the camera.
The Razr 40 model launched in 2023 only has a window-shaped LED display that displays notifications. Meanwhile, the new Motorola Razr 50 has a much larger 3.6-inch external display.
What makes the Razr's external display so great is that Motorola has been very generous about the apps that can take over the secondary display. While Samsung is more restrictive on the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Motorola essentially gives users a second screen.
Motorola says this year's models are even more capable, with the ability to listen to music while viewing and editing photos in Albums without opening them. The company also equips the Razr 50 with a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset, as well as a 4,200mAh battery, supporting 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.
The real innovation is in the camera. Flip phones today have a problem with cameras. A great camera needs space between the lens and the sensor. Meanwhile, a flip phone is half as thick as any other phone. That means less room for camera components, unless you add a large camera bump like on the OnePlus Open.
The Motorola Razr 50 is equipped with a 32MP internal selfie camera, a 50MP main camera and a 13MP ultra-wide angle. In terms of image size, the phone is upgraded from a 12MP camera to a 50MP sensor, using pixel binning to deliver 12.6MP images, with an effective area of 1.6μm for each final pixel, larger than the 1.4 µm sensor pixel on the Razr 40 Plus. Thus, the image is significantly improved.
Moto also introduced improved and expanded camera features for the phone, allowing users to position the phone in a variety of bendable positions to take photos.
Despite the upgrades, the camera is still considered the weakest link of the Motorola Razr overall. It is often the main reason why female customers do not choose it because no woman wants to buy a phone with a bad camera.
The Razr 50 is sold in China with a starting price of 3,699 yuan (about 13 million VND), 8GB RAM, 256GB internal memory. In other markets, it is called the Razr 2024, only the 12GB RAM, 512 memory version.
Motorola's selling price will usually decrease when it is officially sold in the Vietnamese market. Therefore, users do not have to rush to buy hand-carried goods, incurring additional costs. Motorola Razr 50 is currently a worthy folding phone in its price range, if not quite cheap.
Many people don't notice that the Motorola Razr series has always offered a larger main screen than its competitors, with a 6.9-inch OLED. Compare that to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, one of the most popular phones, but only has a 6.8-inch screen.

The throne is a thing of the past but...
Motorola's Razr 50 comes with features that will be familiar at launch because they come from Google. Motorola has access to the best of Google's Android AI features. The Motorola Razr 50 will run Gemini in the cloud and come pre-installed on the device, users will have to opt in to use Gemini instead of Google Assistant.
The new Razr will also get more AI tools straight from Google. For example, you can use Photo Unblur and Magic Editor, features that rival Samsung doesn't offer on its latest Galaxy S24 Ultra, despite its close ties to Google.
Of course, relying so heavily on Google for AI has its limitations. While Samsung has integrated Galaxy AI into the keyboard, Google has added AI on a per-app basis. That means you can’t use the AI writing tool everywhere you’d use a keyboard. On the Razr 50, you’ll find Google Gemini in Gmail and a bunch of other apps. There’s also Gemini on the cover display, which could be useful.
Not having its own AI according to the trend of the times is considered a weakness of Motorola. However, for a large number of users, this is not necessarily a disadvantage, on the contrary, it is… less annoying.
After all, a smartphone, whether it has deep AI integration or not, is still smart enough to meet all the user's wishes. Moreover, the Razr 50, as a technological fashion item, meets the criteria of fashion and technology.
Long gone are the days when Motorola’s flip phones were the pinnacle of smartphones, the dream of everyone, not just women. For various reasons, Motorola lost its throne.
Trends in equipment, technology, as well as other requirements for work and entertainment have caused the handheld device market to constantly change. Although Motorola has fallen behind, it has not lost itself. It is still a very... Motorola language - Hello Moto - now, that beauty, that greeting is gradually helping Motorola regain its foothold in the demanding market.
The current foldable phone market with touch screens has many participating companies but not many stand out. Throughout 2023, with the Razr 40 version, Motorola has maintained very good sales and is only behind Samsung, when the Korean representative has more foldable phone versions.
