Promoting the tradition of "Solidarity - Affection - Responsibility - For Vietnamese Agent Orange/dioxin victims", over the past 20 years, the Association has overcome many difficulties and achieved many important results.
On the afternoon of December 4, the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) held a press conference to inform about the 5th National Congress of VAVA, term 2023-2028 and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Association's founding (January 10, 2004 - January 10, 2024).

At the meeting, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, Chairman of VAVA, emphasized that the Congress will evaluate the implementation results of the Resolution of the 4th National Congress of VAVA Delegates for the 2018-2023 term; to set goals and tasks for the new term, and elect the Executive Committee of the Association for the 2023-2028 term.
This is an important event and milestone of great significance, marking the growth and maturity of the association from the Central level to member associations nationwide, as well as the position and prestige of the Association internationally.
The Congress is an opportunity to propagate the Party and State's guidelines, viewpoints and policies on the work of resolving the consequences of toxic chemicals caused by the US in Vietnam; contribute to raising social awareness of the dangerous nature and long-term consequences of the Agent Orange disaster on the environment and human health of Vietnam; mobilize all classes of people, organizations and individuals at home and abroad to continue to support and help Agent Orange victims materially and spiritually; create interest and support for domestic and international public opinion in the struggle for justice for Vietnamese victims of Agent Orange/dioxin.
In the past time, the Central Committee and provincial and municipal associations have actively prepared in all aspects to successfully organize the 5th National Congress of Delegates, associated with the 20th anniversary of the Association's founding. In 2023, more than 30 provincial and municipal associations nationwide successfully organized congresses for the 2023-2028 term.
Promoting and implementing propaganda work well is a practical activity that contributes to the success of the Congress, while also encouraging VAVA officials and members at all levels to excellently fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State, and local Party committees and authorities.
The 5th VAVA Congress is scheduled to be held in Hanoi at the end of December, with more than 300 delegates attending. The theme of the congress is expected to be “Solidarity, affection, responsibility, towards victims; innovation, building a strong Association, successfully completing the tasks assigned by the Party and State”.
Major General Nguyen Van Rinh said that during the Congress, the delegation will visit President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and be welcomed and encouraged by Party and State leaders.
The President of VAVA also expressed his gratitude to the press, radio and television agencies that have always accompanied and actively coordinated in promoting the Association's activities over the years, especially on the occasions of commemorating the Agent Orange Disaster in Vietnam, the Day for Agent Orange Victims (August 10) every year, and the Association's important events, especially the recent "Action Month for Agent Orange Victims".
Sharing with VAVA, representatives of the press agencies all agreed to coordinate and promote propaganda about the achievements and results that the Association has achieved in the 2018-2023 term and 20 years of establishment, development, and operation of the Association, as well as the main directions, goals, and tasks in the next term and the following years.
VAVA was established with the function of protecting the legal and legitimate rights and interests of Agent Orange victims, carrying out the core task of caring for, helping and fighting for justice for the victims. After 20 years of construction and development, with the attention of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, Party committees, authorities at all levels and people in the country, overseas Vietnamese and international friends; at the same time, with the efforts of the staff and members, the Association has overcome many difficulties, successfully completing the tasks assigned by the Party and State. To date, the Association has organizations at the Central level and member associations in 63/63 provinces and centrally-run cities; more than 610 district-level associations and nearly 6,630 commune-level associations, with a total of more than 400,000 members. |
