In the final days of 2023, Phu Long Cooperative in Kim Trung commune received further good news when all three of its products – freeze-dried Cordyceps sinensis; Cordyceps sinensis soaked in honey; and Cordyceps sinensis wine soaked in honey – were recognized as 3-star OCOP products by the People's Committee of Hung Ha district.
“This is a new stepping stone for the cooperative to further enhance its product brand to meet market demands. After achieving OCOP 3-star certification, the product has won over many customers inside and outside the province. During this time, consumption has increased by 20-30% compared to before,” shared Ms. Tran Thi Tinh, Director of Phu Long Cooperative.
In 2021, Phu Long Cooperative was established with an initial capital of 3 billion VND to build a 500m² workshop including rooms for incubation, light stimulation, inoculation, drying, sterilization, seed shaking, and packaging. According to Ms. Tinh, in the cultivation of Cordyceps sinensis, besides good seeds, the environment and temperature are decisive factors in the success or failure of the product. The temperature must be maintained at 18-20 ° C, and the humidity at 80-90%. When all these conditions are met, harvesting can be done in about 60-65 days. Thanks to strictly adhering to the production process, in 2023 the cooperative produced over 100kg of freeze-dried Cordyceps sinensis, nearly 200 liters of Cordyceps sinensis wine infused with honey, over 300 liters of Cordyceps sinensis infused with honey, and hundreds of jars of fresh Cordyceps sinensis. After deducting expenses, the cooperative earned hundreds of millions of VND in profit per year. To date, Phu Long Cooperative has created jobs for 8 local workers with an income of 5-6 million VND/person/month.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, a member of the cooperative, said: "Thanks to the star rating, our products have become more widely known and trusted. Currently, the cooperative has connected with 5 e-commerce platforms, making it easy to sell our products in localities both within and outside the province."

Meanwhile, at Chau Minh Co., Ltd. in Thai Phuong commune, the sounds of weaving machines, overlock machines, and quilting machines fill the air as workers rush to produce goods to meet market demand for the Lunar New Year. Being recognized as a 3-star OCOP product in the final days of the year is a great encouragement for the company in its efforts to build its brand. It also serves as a "passport" for the product to access larger markets.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan, a worker at the company, said: "We are very excited that our cotton towels have been recognized as a 3-star OCOP product, as this is an opportunity for more people to know about us and build credibility with customers. To meet end-of-year orders, we are speeding up production and paying attention to every step to ensure quality products for consumers. Currently, our monthly salary is between 7 and 8 million VND, and the work is suitable for our age and health."
Building upon the local traditional craft, since 2006, Mr. Nguyen Van Mao, Director of Chau Minh Co., Ltd., has boldly invested billions of VND to purchase 6 industrial towel weaving machines. As a result, production capacity has not only doubled but product quality has also improved. On average, the company produces nearly 500 tons of towels annually for the domestic market and 25 tons for export to Japan, with nearly 40 different product lines, generating revenue of over 50 billion VND per year. Currently, the company has 3 products recognized as 3-star OCOP products: bath towels, face towels, and hair towels… creating jobs for nearly 50 direct employees and hundreds of satellite workers with an income of 6-7 million VND per person per month.
Mr. Nguyen Van Mao, Director of the company, said: "The strength of OCOP products lies in aiming for the goal of 'Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods' and strengthening the links between craft villages. Therefore, our towel products are divided into different categories such as medium and high-end to be sold in traditional markets and supermarkets. To maintain market share and enhance product value, we invest in modern machinery, improve designs, and continuously enhance product quality. At the same time, we proactively secure raw materials, apply information technology in trade promotion on digital platforms, adapt to the stringent demands of customers, and gradually build our brand in the domestic and international markets."
Promoting sustainable development of OCOP products.
According to Plan No. 101/KH-UBND dated August 10, 2023, of the People's Committee of Hung Ha district on the OCOP program in 2023 and orientation to 2025, the entire district strives to have over 30 products recognized as OCOP products, including 10 products recognized with 4 stars and 5 products recognized with 5 stars.
To achieve the above goal, Hung Ha district has issued a support mechanism for communes and towns when developing products, including 100 million VND/product and support for rewarding entities and localities with products recognized as OCOP products… This mechanism has encouraged farmers, cooperatives, and businesses to improve processes, promote the application of science and technology in production and processing, and improve product quality and design. From a district with the lowest number of OCOP products in the province, in 2023 Hung Ha district had an additional 19 products recognized as 3-star OCOP products.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Hieu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Ha District, said: The district's mechanism will be a lever to encourage and stimulate demand, aiming to increase the quantity, quality, variety, and value of agricultural products, contributing to maintaining and developing traditional products of the homeland to a new level. Therefore, the district will continue to promote the OCOP program; encourage businesses to boldly invest in production and develop advantageous local products. In addition, it will encourage the transformation of crop and livestock structures, forming key commodity production areas, creating sustainable raw material zones for product processing, and creating conditions for developing production along the value chain; applying science and technology and accessing new markets through Industry 4.0. For products that have been certified, the district will strengthen coordination in management, promotion, and trade facilitation, bringing OCOP products to participate in fairs and exhibitions inside and outside the province.
Hopefully, with efforts to improve product quality, diversify designs, and enhance the promotion of OCOP products, OCOP businesses will have more opportunities to expand internationally. This will contribute to preserving and promoting the cultural identity of each characteristic product group in each commune and town; fostering the creativity of businesses, and continuously researching and producing new products to meet consumer needs and tastes.
